People are finally realising that privatisation of energy isn’t working now we have lunatics supplying the energy
You’re bang on here by the way. For me, if anyone involved in the entire production and supply process of energy is making £1 in profit, that means bills are collectively £1 too high.
It’s as literally essential a service as you can get, it’s how people cook to feed their kids and keep them warm.
Politics is one of those things that makes people angry but I’m enraged by the idea that energy prices can be jacked up by thousands and thousands each year, and a government will just shrug whilst the companies involved post billions and billions in profit.
It’s not even just disgusting, it’s impossible, and I’m firmly behind the idea of people just not paying it until the people who set the prices give their heads a shake, or the government intervenes. There comes a point where you have to make a value judgement about things; if the price of water went up to £1000 a glass, too right I’d still drink it because I need it to stay alive, but there’s no way I’d pay that for it, it’s not a fair price, and they’re welcome to send me as many letters as they like.
We use the term “crisis” a lot, but if fuel bills go up to what they’re trying to put them up to, that’s a proper national crisis and will cause serious problems, either financial or physical, for tens of millions. And this is happening, starting in two months.
It’s outrageous that Truss’s idea to fix that is “no handouts tho, we might cut corporation tax a bit”.
