WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump on Friday named a former pharmaceutical executive to lead his administration's all-out effort to produce and distribute a coronavirus vaccine by the end of the year.

Moncef Slaoui, a former GlaxoSmithKline executive, will lead "Operation Warp Speed," Trump's push to accelerate the vaccine development process for COVID-19. Slaoui is to serve in a volunteer capacity, and will be assisted by Army Gen. Gustave Perna, the commander of United States Army Materiel Command.

The move comes as the president and White House aides hope to produce vaccines for the coronavirus faster than what many scientists believe is realistic. The administration is aiming to have 300 million doses to distribute to Americans by the end of the year, believing a reliable vaccine is the only way to promote an economic rebound.

His pinball politics would be laughable if they weren't so damaging.
He's gone from saying no one could have prepared for this pandemic to now saying that the Obama plan wasn't good enough and that he made another plan which he will reveal on Monday (I think) showing how well prepared he was.
He's also saying testing maybe isn't a good thing now after weeks of telling everyone how incredible his testing regime was. Apparently, testing reveals cases and if you didn't have so much testing then you'd have fewer cases.

As an aside and switching to the mask issue, his insistence on not wearing one was really well illustrated with a pants based analogy.
If two people are stood facing each other naked and one pees, the other gets wet. If you are wearing pants and the person facing you pees you get a bit wet.
If the other person is wearing pants and they pee then you don't get wet.
A very simple illustration of why you wear a mask if you ask me.
I'll leave these 'super duper' fast missiles that the space force will be getting for another day as my dumbometer is at risk of exploding.
