The annual commemoration of one of the greatest atrocities in human history will be marked online this year.

A service for Holocaust Memorial Day would normally be held by Teesside University with support from Middlesbrough Council.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown restrictions that's not possible this year, so a ‘virtual' event will be held on Wednesday, January 27.

The day marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp.

The theme for this year's HMD is Be The Light In The Darkness, encouraging everyone to reflect on the depths to which humanity can sink, but also stressing how individuals and communities can resist the darkness before, during and after genocide.

It's a chance to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, and the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

I have a copy of ' The Holocaust The Jewish Tragedy ' in my car, every paragraph on every page brings tears to my eyes.

If I have a bad day, I open in it and realise how life has been good to me.

Page 41 paragraph 2 , October 1933 , placards appear on shops. Jews not Wanted.
