One year of Michael Carrick

A year to the day since the brightest footballing mind this side of Zdenek Zeman accepted the challenge of returning the mighty Boro to the top division and pushing us on towards winning another major trophy.

What a year it’s been. The football has, for about 90% of the time, been absolutely off the scale IMO. Like nothing I’ve seen Boro play before. He’s turned the team’s form and confidence around TWICE in the space of a year. Some Boro managers weren’t able to even do it once. Players across the board get better under him. He is the best thing to happen to this football club in years and years.

What a great time to be a Boro supporter.

He really has been a breath of fresh air, and to come out of the poor start of the season the way we have is all credit to him and his staff. Many were starting to question what was going on a month or two ago, myself included, but the turn around has been nothing short of phenomenal. Lets hope we can kick on again tonight.

Thats a quick year!

Overall a success. The tough end to last season and start to this season, and the recent turnaround has made it a even greater success for me.

Its showed he has what it takes in tough times.

Highlight for me was the win at SheffU on TV... we played some wonderful football that night..

Agree with that.

I also loved the Norwich game at home. That crazy 5 minute spell before half time just summed us up last year when we were firing on all cylinders.

Just brilliant championship chaos!

I think he will only grow as a manager, and has hopefully learned something from the end of last season where we just didnt seem to be up for it once automatic promotion slipped away.

I would be devastated if we lost him to another club in the next 18 months, but if we dont get promoted, thats what will happen.

I can honestly say the last year has reignited my passion for the club, which is sad in a way, as I hadnt realised just how I had become a bit disenfranchised over the last few years.

If I remember correctly, he only signed a 2.5 year deal so only has 18 months left. Do we get him tied down for longer?
Yeah he can stay as long as he likes for me. The man oozes class and is the blueprint for the type of coach we should be looking at when the sad day comes for him to move on and take over Real Madrid.

No more massive egos with impressive CVs who think they're doing us a favour please.

I don't think the length of contract means too much when it comes to managers anyway, we could lose him tomorrow contract or not. But it would be a positive if he signs an extension as it'd show he's happy here and keen to stay even longer.

So many highlights, it's difficult to choose! I would have to say Sheff United away, but then Norwich at home was pure entertainment, and Sunderland this season has to be up there too.

It's nice to still be happy with the manager after a year in charge, makes a change from the last few who have had a go.

I dare say if his year in charge had come 3/4 weeks ago some sections would be calling for his head!

Carrick is a very special talent. He is a rarity in football in so far as he (as far as I am aware) has never said a bad word about anyone, ever. He comes across as the most decent, warm, human being, he’d give George Friend a good run in the ideal son-in-law stakes. He appears to have a wry sense of humour, I’d bet he could put a smile on the Grinch’s face, we’re very lucky to have him and I hope he becomes known for being a one club manager.

That was an amazing night, but the point I really started to believe we could do something last season was Norwich away (who had of course just come down from the Prem and were fancied). Hopefully more of the same tonight!
Agreed - they started well and were really making it tough. Carrick watching intently, making notes and then when there was an injury break the whole team gathered round to listen to him and we gradually got a foothold. Then second half, after a full 15 minutes to pass on instructions we played some fantastic stuff and completely dominated for long spells, leading to McGree's worldie and that late winner from Crooks. That's when I realised we were onto something special.

Well that was just lovely.
