Started his 13th game of his short career to date at the mighty Boro unaware of what he was about to achieve

Dave Armstrong made 12 appearences between April 1972 to 27th January 1973 when then a gap of missing 7 games & on the 24th March 1973 DA started at home to Vila in a 1-1 draw & what followed is truly remarkable, playing every single league & Cup game, including 99% of friendlies, to the 6th September 1980 at home to Forest in a 0-0 draw
A phenomenal 356 consecutive games, including countless friendlies, ASC, that will probably never be beaten, what a player & record, a remarkable player who should have regularly played for England, how he didn't us criminal

I was working in Southampton when he signed for them and was living just round the corner from the ground. Just after his signing I was going to the gym, carrying my kit in an Adidas style flight bag and noticed the corner of the ground open. I wandered in and had a look around and when I was leaving a lad about 12 asked me for my autograph. At the time I was slightly balding and due to speaking with a north east accent, the kid was sure I was Spike - I was even nicknamed Spike. The lad thought I was just being ignorant and persisted I sign his book. I eventually took the pen off him, signed his book with my name and left. :)

As my user name suggests, my all time Boro hero. So unlucky to be a left sided midfielder at the same time as Brooking and Devonshire, otherwise he would have been an England regular. A left foot like a wand and 10-15 goals a season. Would have been worth £60 million today

alanmoody, David Brown played the final 10 games for the Boro in John Neals 1st season as manager, 1977-78

John Neal wanted a No2 to Jim Platt & gave both DB & Pat Cuff game time to see who he would keep as the 2nd keeper to challenge Platty

A local lad from Hartlepool, made his debut on the 27th March 1977 in a 1-0 home defeat to Leicester City, I remember him more in the game David Shearer scored both goals in a 2-0 home win over Chelsea as a holgate ender when DB was in goal

Unfortunatly, neither DB or Pat Cuff figured in John Neals plans & both eventually left with the arrival of Jim Stewart for season 1978-79, Dave Brown went to Plymouth on loan August 1979 & Pat Cuff to Millwall June 1978
