On this day 1929 George Camsell

GC goals in one game, he scored 5 goals on 2 occassions, 4 goals on 9 occassions & hat tricks on 13 occasions, again, you could include when scoring the 4 & 5 it was as hattricks

Tim Williamson played a record of 602 appearences in goal over 22 seasons, including been in goal for the last game at Linthorpe road & the 1st at Ayresome Park but he holds 2 seperate records at AP, one an unwanted record & one, every Boro fan who was there at one particular time in the golden past wished it could have been broken

And now we talk about Britt and say. At least he has got double figures for the last three seasons. Or we hark back to the dark days of the eighties when our top scorer was only in single figures.
I know it's difficult to compare footballers from different generations but give me a Camsell l Clough Peacock Hickton or Slaven any day over the lot we've got the last few seasons

Is one of them missing a penalty against West Ham?

Go on then, tell us more!
Tim Williamson played in the 1st ever international at Ayresome Park when in goal for England v Ireland, but was responsible for the Irelands goal & in some records was down as the 1st England keeper to score an OG

2nd, he is the only Boro keeper to score a penalty during a league game when netted on two occassions
1st - 23rd April 1910 at home to Liverpool in a 2-2 draw
2nd -10th September 1910 at home to Bristol City in a 3-0 win

Our 10th different penalty taker, our 6th & 7th AP penalties & total, our 27th & 28th penalty since becoming a football league club

George DOES hold the record for goals in a season
Dean 60 league 0 FA cup total 60
Camsell 59 league 4 FA cup total 63
Dean took all Everton penalties Camsell took no Boro penalties
In my opinion George holds the record!

9 England games 18 England goals
9 games you ask? Teams were picked by committee. Bet there was no geographical bias then!
Ask your mates who has best goals per game record for England no one will mention the great George Camsell

According to wiki, Dixie Dean scored 3 FA Cup goals that season, so he too finished on 63 in total, just as Camsell had done a year earlier. I did read somewhere (cant remember where) that to make sure Dean beat the record set by Camsell, that toward the end of that 60 goal season Dean was credited with a couple of deflected goals that normally would have been given to someone else. I call shenanigans.

Anyway, Camsell never took pens, so I agree, he's the true record holder!

Camsell did take penalties, though I dont think the regular penalty taker, think that was Billy Pease
