Olympic Skateboarding?

Just had this conversation with the Mrs. I was by no means a good skater, but the stuff I still watch on YouTube by regular guys is light years away from the women's comp. Why they are so young baffles me a bit, there are loads of better skaters in x games who've done it for years and are really creative and innovative with their tricks. Some of the tricks those 3 medal winners were doing are reasonably simple, at least in street terms. Not saying I could ever land them, but it's certainly not groundbreaking, but I could land some of them (simpler versions) over a deck of 4 stairs, not 12. I think it's getting hyped up because it's a new event to be fair

Thought it was atrocious. Kids just grinding along rails and falling off time and time again. Is this really the sort of thing the IOC think will appeal to the younger generations.

The stuff that’s been shown so far is extremely technical rather than spectacular as far as I can tell. If there were better skaters out there, they would be competing surely?

Cleanse your palette with one of my favourites from days gone by

I don't know what was on today but i watched the men's street and it was fine.

I think watching people on YouTube, who have made multiple attempts to land one trick and stitched together their highlights is considerably different to an Olympic final where you must land the trick or else.

I mean my five a side highlights would contain some truly world class goals, the likes of which the riverside pitch has rarely seen, but doesn't mean i deserve to be on it.

I was expecting so much more but watching it you couldn’t help thinking given a couple of weeks and some serious knacker protection half of us on here could have been in that competition!

the real top notch boarders aren't interested in all the politics of the so called Olympiad -- I mean can you see the likes of Z boys complying with any of the requirements for the Olympics. lol  --even though I'd love to listen to the pre and post competition interviews just for the pure theatre of their rhetoric [depending how much they'd smoked or inhaled during that time].

Ive watched it and to be honest thougt it was great. Anyone who thinks they could do that after a few weeks training would be laid up with their arms n legs in a cast
