Old British Classics to pass away the time....

Just gone onto Y/T very recently , The Gift Horse (search for the US title 'Glory At Sea').
Rarely seen, it's based on the story of HMS Campbeltown and the St Naziere raid.
Richard Attenborough, Bernard Lee, Trevor Howard.
I know it is not a film but Jeremy Clarkson, a man I’m not keen on, narrates a documentary on the raid on the docks at St Nazaire. Apparently his father in law took part in the raid. Well worth a watch.

I have visited the docks and what they achieved is unbelievable.

Edit: His father in law was at Arnhem and awarded the VC.

Re The Cruel Sea.
A bit of Teesside parochialism: There was no CGI, the 'props' used were real WWII ships, built at Smith's Dock.

@Norman_Conquest Good post mate. It's only 5 mins long if you haven't seen it people, and well worth a watch! Hammond and May may don't make an appearance if that helps anyone to watch it.

In Which We Serve is a brilliant film. Noel Coward as the redoubtable Capt of HMS Torrin. Love the way the story is told in flashback.
Also watched Saturday Night Sunday Morning with Albert Finney the other night. Absolute classic of the kitchen sink drama genre.
