Gareth Southgate says he may need to start selecting from "the Championship or elsewhere" in the future.

The England manager says there's a decreasing number of English players in the Premier League.

The England manager has stated facts. Perhaps you would care to elaborate on why this has you so triggered? 🤷🏼‍♂️

We're one of the richest and best footballing nations in the world, with the best league in the world.

We shouldn't need to be selecting players from any second division to represent the best of the best from our nation, unless they're an extraordinary talent in a breakout season.

The other problem is that not many English players go and play abroad. The likes of Spain, France, Germany and Italy all have a lot more players playing in top leagues elsewhere. Apart from Jude Bellingham we don't really have anyone else, unless you include Tammy Abraham, although even he isn't getting a start at Roma anymore.

Its the fact we are so cash compared to spain Germany Italy etc means we are importing the best rather developing it. The rise of billion pound sportswashing clubs is detrimental to the game

Do Germany, Spain, Italy, France etc pick players from second divisions?
I don't particularly disagree, but none of those countries have second tiers that are anywhere near as strong as the championship.

A lot of the french league is probably on a par with it.

The premier league, particularly top half, is becoming more and more like an international league featuring "world all star sides" due to the stupid money in it now.

I think it is quite hard to compare the English league to other country's leagues. The championship might not have the very top tier nations often selecting players from it, but the next best group of countries have no issues with it. The likes of Denmark, Australia, US, Norway, Uruguay, Poland etc.

Not sure it would be the complete disaster being made out if the England manager had to look at some of the top English players in the championship. It's a very good standard, underrated by many.
