Off-licences added to official list . . .

The problem is that if they shut everything then it will concentrate more people in supermarkets which increases contact and reduces the chance of supermarkets getting stocked up properly. At least lots of small shops with social distancing and cleaning measures means the economy doesn't shut down completely and it still reduces the chance of the spread. Just because all of those businesses will be allowed to be open it doesn't mean that they will. Most sensible people will probably avoid all those and a lot of them will voluntarily close anyway.

You have seen how people are ignoring requests to stay in across the UK. Requests are not working. To reduce unnecessary deaths you need to lock things down as firmly as you can. People first, the economy second. I feel that this is an attempt at herd immunity via stealth.

It's interesting Spanishman - both of us have been under a tight lockdown for 10 days now - from your posts (and my experience) over here the Spanish appear to have a completely different outlook / understanding / acceptance of what's required than the UK.

While part of that is undoubtedly Boris and his chums sending mixed messages, I just don't get why it's not getting through to a significant percentage of the population
