You're right Erimus, can't remember any mates or family voting for it. Maybe it was those secret voters who also voted for goal music? I wanted The Erimus Stadium

I voted for the Riverside Erimus74 I thought it had the catchiest name and thought it would be more memorable for all football fans around the country. After it was announced, we always liked to sing Down by the Riverside in the car on the way to the game. With changed words though
"Were gonna stuff..(insert name of opposition).. down at the riverside, down at the riverside, down at the riverside" (and repeat over and over)

Sad, but we were excited about the future then 😀

I can’t remember what I voted for to be honest - I think I wanted Mannion Park. Was it three options? I thought Riverside Stadium was a bit predictable an uninspiring really

🐔

Mannion Park was never an option though, so not sure how people managed to vote for it

I think the options given made the riverside an obvious winner . It was as if their had that picked out them selves in advance .
Manchester have old Trafford football and cricket ground Durham area has the riverside cricket and football ground .

Strange coluka, all the years we've spoke on here, very similar in our favourite teams, matches, music, (don't know if thats good or bad mind) & for some reason I would never have put you down for the Riverside

Maybe having left the area a long while and not reading the local papers etc some of the others never particularly resonated with me really. I just thought it sounded better and would be more memorable. I appreciate it isnt unique though. I do know a few other people who voted Riverside too, but strangely not one of them lived in Teesside at that time as far as I recall.

Surely it wasn't a fix really was it? Mind, I think the new loyalty scheme was as they apparently already had the system software agreed before the question was raised, so who knows maybe it was!

Yep I voted for the Riverside. As did my brother and his son. The others were too twee sounding for me.

Well zoophonic, I'm glad of that TBH, at least people out ther did actually vote for the Riverside (y)

I've always disliked Riverside as a name, it's so bland and generic.

Look at Barnsley, their stadium is an absolute dump but Oakwell is a solid name.

I think only Forest and Derby, and the sponsored stadiums are as bad as ours in the Championship.

Oh and in footballing terms we've gone backwards; from Wiki:

"The first game was played against Chelsea in front of a 28,286 crowd (the highest home attendance in 14 years) on 26 August 1995.[8] Middlesbrough won the game 2–0, with Craig Hignett taking the honour of scoring the first ever goal at the stadium, Jan Åge Fjørtoft scoring the second. Their first season at their new stadium was also their first back in the Premier League following promotion after two seasons away. "

Finally got used to it, its took all these years though. The whole reason we are around here is the river, I've worked beside and on the river Tees and Iam a Teessider.

Not the most imaginative name The Riverside, its beside Middlesbrough Wharf and Dock, but the Ironmasters district was after the Tranny and up to the Newport district.

I do miss AP floodlit and the smoke and atmosphere strangely, but like today I spent most of my time in a half empty AP.

Seen some great players and not only Boro ones, I seen Mannion at Sheps TM, Jimmy Greaves, Jimmy Johnson, George Best,Bobby Charlton Denis Law, John Grieg and Colin Stein, Bobby Moore ,Roger Hunt Geoff Hurst 3 times to name a few.

Mannion Park already exists, its on the Trunk Road, I played Tony Armstrongs team there which was the Boro Reserves barring 2 players, we were winning 1-0 at HT and were beaten 6-1:(.
I think they ended up playing in the Teesside Strongarm Saturday league, two of my Sunday players ended up with them.
Tony was a Boro scout and spotted some really good talent for Ron Bone.
