Not having Jones on the bench.

Please stop with the love in for step over Jones, he is not the same player as last year, if he was, then he would be on the bench or in the starting 11.
Carrick doesn’t have favourites he picks players on merit, talent and hard work on the training pitch, Jones has lost his way so how would he improve us.
Are you saying that Carrick and his training staff are wrong?

Jones will be back before the season is out..

i get your point but it's a bit idealistic. The lad has been off form and Carrick obviously doesn't think he's up to it at the moment. So Jones bombing down and collecting a ball and producing something is a nice concept, but i'm not sure it would be fruitful.
I think we could have tried to use him in a different way last night and instructed him not to show for the ball, but instead aim to make runs in behind their defence.

We had a few decent opportunities to counter last night but we just didn't have the pace to hurt them.

I think I remember there being a moment late on where Forss ran onto a ball and nearly put Finch through but he just couldn't quite get there in time to make decent enough contact with the ball. Might have been different if we'd had Jones on the pitch.

Perhaps, but is Jones actually faster than Forss or Ramsay etc?
I'm not knocking him, I like him, he's just not done anything with confidence for a while. It would be good to think he could come back and give us another genuine option though

Unless Jones suddenly shows a massive uptick in training, I can't really see him being used that much, if at all in the run in. He's got a big pre-season coming up, to see where his career goes. Atm, he's certainly not the answer if we are struggling to break teams down. Even Forss struggled to get into the game, getting a bit frustrated. He needs to calm down, made a bad tackle soon after he came on.

Well let’s see, there’s nine games left , and don’t forget we have Crooks coming back soon, so thats more competition for places on the bench.
But Jones and Crooks aren’t competing for the same place on the pitch and therefore on the bench, so they aren’t mutually exclusive

The point I was making is with Crooks missing, he still couldn’t get a place to fill the bench up.
If you cannot make the match day squad of 18 with squad players like Crooks missing then what chance have you got.
Carrick sees what most of us have seen this season, Jones unfortunately has lost his form and confidence, the rest of team under the new regime are improving and are mostly full of confidence and belief,
I don’t think Jones will ever start a game for Boro again.

Totally wrong

Since Carrick took over we've beaten

Hull 3-1 A
Norwich 2-1 A
Luton 2-1 H
Blackburn 2-1 A
Millwall 1-0 H
Watford 2-0 H
Sheffield United 3-1 A

They're all battling for something at the top wether it's contention for automatics or to get into the playoffs.

We've lost to Sunderland (With 10 men) WBA (2 early goals) and Burnley (Top of the league by a mile)
In our only other draw we played Bristol City off the park and they had to thank their keeper for rescuing them.

We weren't the better side tonight but we went toe to toe in blood and thunder with them and that pleased me.

We'll put it right I'm not worried.
Love this post, I still think we shouldnt be looking at the teams below, we will never open a gap, sheff u won, Luton won and they will both drop points between now and the end of the season, fans seem to want to get things rapped up so we are safe but we basically give the leading pack a 16 game start, to be where we are in incrediable, fate is in our hands for Playoffs and if we keep winning thats all we can do and hope sheff u slip up either way I am happy with my team and will enjoy the emotoinal rollercoaster that is football and the championship, we wont play many teams as difficult as stoke where between now and the end of the season and if we finish in the playoffs, I think the players and management will of learnt a lot from the defeats we have had under carrick, fans struggle with emotions and want games finished early and that doesnt happen.

We have been excellent to be in the position we are and fans should not expect anything other than 100% which I think the team have been given in the main, probably barring Sunderland, so lets go to the games back the team 100% no matter what like we used to, create and atmosphere and stand & sing to drive them over the line, fans are the 12th man and we need to support them during games and drive them on, players feel the tension from the stand and it makes them play safe which Carrick eluded to players not trusting themselves with passes when they where available.

Its going to be brilliant till the end of the season and I for one am glad we are in the mix and happy to enjoy the ride.

Exactly the fact we're sitting so comfortably in the play offs is an absolute miracle.
Carrick has proven that this squad was ready to go in August, they had it all there to be a promotion side. Alas we had a muppet in charge. .17 game head start like you say and only one of them truly pulled away. Had we had a manager who could actually guide this squad we'd be up there with Burnley and Sheffield United would have been hoping to be in the play offs among the pack.

They need our backing, our unconditional backing for the next 9 games. If they don't get that Automatic spot. Roar them to Wembley and make sure they know the whole of Teesside appreciates the effort they've put in. On that big Wembley pitch, our forwards will pull anybody apart.

As nice as Automatics would be, I kinda want a Chuba winner at Wembley to complete the greatest resurgence story in our history

He will definitely feature amongst our seven impacters over the last nine games..
