Not having Jones on the bench.

I've noticed that we struggle when the midfield and defence pushes up and denies us space.

Stoke, Sunderland and West Brom went man for man against us and I feel it was begging out for our forwards to spin into space behind and turn the Stoke defence last night, which was playing a very high line, yet we continued to play to feet and forced passes, which made us very predictable.

I feel last night could have been the night when Jones could have been effective coming off the bench. There were a couple of times late on when we played a ball down the line over on the right and I was thinking to myself imagine Jones running onto that ball.

I think we have seen why the playoffs if we get into them will be a lottery, we are playing brilliantly but every time ( apart from Sheff Utd) we come up against a descent team who are up for it then we look a bit weak, please let us us go up by the auto's!
We seem to struggle against teams who play with a high-press. Carrick's been amazing, and I get that he wants the team to play this certain way no matter what but midway through the 2nd half it became blatantly obvious that it wasn't going to work for us.

Totally wrong

Since Carrick took over we've beaten

Hull 3-1 A
Norwich 2-1 A
Luton 2-1 H
Blackburn 2-1 A
Millwall 1-0 H
Watford 2-0 H
Sheffield United 3-1 A

They're all battling for something at the top wether it's contention for automatics or to get into the playoffs.

We've lost to Sunderland (With 10 men) WBA (2 early goals) and Burnley (Top of the league by a mile)
In our only other draw we played Bristol City off the park and they had to thank their keeper for rescuing them.

We weren't the better side tonight but we went toe to toe in blood and thunder with them and that pleased me.

We'll put it right I'm not worried.

We could have lost to Sunderland with 11 men we would have been 1-0 down anyway, and up to that point we were struggling, the sending off woke us up, but for the rest don't bother., Our style of play steamrollers teams if they aren't fully up for it, if they are then we struggle, Stoke 2nd half were on the front foot and going for it even up to the final minute.
You are right about we will put it right, so I am not against Carrick in fact I think he is the best thing to happen to us in a very long time, I wouldn't even being feeling ***ed off that we missed out on narrowing the gap if wasn't down ton him to putting us in that place to begin with, I feel the management team will eventually sort out the negatives but that won't take away the possibility that it might not happen before the playoffs. This is going to sound bleeding obvious but I am sure that our best way of going up is to do it automatically, the play offs might highlight our weaknesses against better teams.

We could have done with more attacking options on the bench. Even Muniz would have offered something a bit different but he would have had to leave Mowatt out to include him.

Mowatt got 23 minutes against Reading. He has had 5 other appearances in the league in 2023 the longest being 7 minutes but mainly running the clock down 1 or 2 minutes. I agree we could afford to swap him out with Muniz just to give us something a little different up front. Especially with Barlaser looking so good;)

We didn't have any real "game changers" - bar maybe Forss - on the bench last night. No Crooks who'll come on and make a nuisance of himself, and Jones who will run at defences even if he's inconsistent. Respect to Sonny Finch, but he was never going to provide the change we needed.
This is when you need a Josh Coburn.

Coburn who has not scored since early January and has spent a lot of time on the bench in the second half of the season. He may turn out to be a good player but he is not at the level we are at at this present time.

This is nonsense although I do agree that when we come up against a certain style we struggle, it’s not so much the quality of the team. It’s a bit like styles make fights in boxing.

Burnley, Stoke and West Brom all pressed us and we couldn’t deal with it. We won’t change the way we play, we just have to get better at it or bring in players that can do it.

He'd have been absolute toilet like he has been for about 18 months mate.

Don't kid yourself Jones would have made a difference last night.

If Jones can find his old form, he'd certainly be an asset to the team & out attacking play - needs to get his head in gear & work on the training ground instruction.. could yet be a big player for us in the season run in..

We’ve hammered Sheffield United and beaten Blackburn, Norwich, Watford, Millwall and Luton since the World Cup break. I’m not really worried by the prospect of playing anyone other than Burnley in this league TBH. We’re one of the best three teams in the division.

Just an idiot comment. 18 months was when Wilder came in.

We need to use our squad and impact players when it doesn't work. Can't rely on the same players every game. Needed Crooks and Jones off the bench last night.

i get your point but it's a bit idealistic. The lad has been off form and Carrick obviously doesn't think he's up to it at the moment. So Jones bombing down and collecting a ball and producing something is a nice concept, but i'm not sure it would be fruitful.

To be fair we've done well until last night - so the manager has picked a squad that has got the wins
If he doesn't rate Muniz then he's not going to pick him for matches
I do hope Jones can recapture his previous , but also trust a manager who's got 15 wins out of 21

we dont miss jones and theres a reason he barely makes the bench. its technically poor. We missed the width down the right last night but we should have had forss out there sooner instead of up top. missed his energy i thought.
