Noel Gallagher - new album details

The snippets that have been released so far suggest some acrimonious feeling. I've been listening to Noel's podcast with Matt Morgan the last few years and it was clear during the peak of covid etc that all was not well. This stopped last summer sometime, presumably around the time they decided to split. I imagine the divorce was agreed months ago and is only coming out now before his album launch gets going.
Will be interesting to hear it. I liked the first HFB album but wasn't too keen on Who Built The Moon. I respect Noel for not being afraid to experiment but I got the impression that he labelled it "cosmic pop" in an attempt to make the material seem more interesting, when in reality they were a collection of weak songs, given fancy production to mask their shortcomings.

The bonus track Dead on the Water, a stripped-back acoustic song was probably better than all the album tracks, which is when Noel is at his best as a songwriter and performer in my opinion.

Agree with most of that. I do think he has an interest in dance music though, we saw shades of it with Falling Down on the final Oasis album. He actually wrote that whole 'Who Built the Moon?' album in the studio with the producer observing, something he's never done before. I don't think he thought the songs were weak as such, but he knew they weren't for everybody and he didn't care. I sort of respect that, even if it was a bit weaker than his previous two.

However, he has said this album will have some stuff on it that WILL appeal to the 'parka monkeys' as he calls them. That said, the new single 'Pretty Boy' definitely won't. I actually don't think its very good personally either, but I am hopeful for the album.

Either way, I'm not sure I'm that fussed about seeing the pair of them swagger about the stage in their 50s playing Live Forever for the gazillionth time. The 90s were great, but they're a distant memory. I remember feeling a bit subdued about the Stone Roses reunion, went to see them of course, but sort of felt like it didn't enrich anything.

I'm not too bothered about seeing an Oasis reunion myself now. It would be nice to think they could at least reunite as brothers though. I've always followed the Oasis story and I know how close they both are to their Mam. It's a shame to think she might pass away without seeing them reconcile with one another. You would think that would motivate them to put aside their differences.

Yes I know what you mean. Its a bit like the Harry and William saga 😆

Peggy lives not too far from me. Sometimes if City are at home I cycle past out of curiosity, to see if there's any signs of Noel being in there (Liam doesn't go to many homes games). Sad I know, its not like I'd actually do anything even if Noel's Rolls Royce was parked outside, which I'm sure he wouldn't be daft enough to do.

He might have to give it to Sara now anyway.

What's the area like out of interest? I know Liam and Noel have always been happy to play up to the whole 'working class lads off the estate' thing but I've often thought it can't be that bad of an estate to live on if their Mam has chosen to remain living there, especially when they could afford to buy her a house in a nice area.

They offered and she didn’t want to move

Its in Burnage, which isn't great. But its on the edge of Burnage, in the bit quite close to Didsbury (posh), the nicer part of Levenshulme (Manchester's answer to Hackney - traditionally rough but 'cool') and the Heatons (which are some fairly nice suburbs of Stockport, where I live :) ).

I have been in all the pubs near their old house on several occasions, most of them are fine, but its certainly not 'gentrified'. The one closest to their family home was rough as TOAST (and not in a romantic/rough but friendly working class kind of way, in a 'look at the wrong person and you're getting stabbed in the bogs' kind of way), but it has since closed down (no loss). I've no idea if they ever used to go in there but it may have been ok in years gone by.

To be fair, I don't think their 'working class estate' claim is in any way exaggerated. In the 80s, I imagine the area was pretty grim. Its only a few quirky little bars and take away restaurants that have brought it up a bit I think in the last 10 years. There is a chicken place over the road from where they grew up that is absolutely slammed every time you go past, like they are literally queuing up the street. I dunno what they're putting in the chicken, you'd be forgiven for assuming it was crack!

True, but they did buy her a big place on the west coast of Ireland, I believe, that she spends a fair chunk of her time at. Not that I'd know, you can never tell whether she's in or not.

Her house in Burnage is close to where all her sisters live/lived, and she always valued being walking distance to them all.

To be clear, I've no idea where all of these sisters actually live though, before anyone thinks I'm stalking the entire extended family. 🤣

Why have you watched him 5 times if you're not keen?

His first two albums were almost exactly as I expected, certainly wasn't disappointed. Was a bit with the last one, but still liked a few tracks.

He's not really persisting with the scissor playing! The lass is a vocalist.
Didn’t say I wasn’t keen, just disappointed.
Saw more during his first tour and the first gig post oasis at the Albert Hall, that was superb.

I agree with this, I'm a huge Oasis fan but have no desire to see the band back together. I'd rather they didn't spoil it, Liam is like a bad karaoke version of his 20 year old self.

Noel never used to drive... not sure if he's passed his test in recent years though!

I think Liam's relationship with her contributed massively to the breakdown in Liam and Noel's relationship. I can remember Noel doing an interview with Zane a few years back and Zane told Noel that Liam had been really complimentary about him when Zane had interviewed him.

Noel shut him down and said it meant nothing to him, as he would be on Twitter saying the complete opposite, playing to the masses, and then Noel said when it matters and he's abusing my wife and daughter it's different. It surprised me as up until that point I had wondered whether both of them had manufactured the break-up to some extent but it was obvious by Noel's tone that there is a lot of genuine bad feeling there.

Whether that will change now that Noel and his wife have seperated remains to be seen. I suppose it depends on whether their break-up was amicable or not.
I kind of see it from Noel's point of view. The guy was kicked around by a drunk dad for years, got himself out of that situation and then when his brother's had a drink he turns into a similar vicious gobshite trying to drag everyone into the fight. We all know the type and we all try to avoid them, family or not.

Noel might talk a lot of **** in the press but he always talked very fondly of being a dad and a husband, so I bet he won't admit it, but it's probably a tough moment for him.
