Nobby's Notebook - Stoke City 📖✍️

Hi Sportsfans, a bad day at the office v Stoke where injuries and suspensions finally caught up with us...

Stoke had won their previous 2 games so confidence was high and they were out of the traps quickly.

No. 27 Mehdi Leris scored a good goal and caused problems down the right hand side with his strong running and trickery.

Goalkeeper Jack Bonham picked out several crosses and did well coming in for the recalled Mark Travers.

My choice this week is a previous Notebook entry, and a player I wish we had signed a few years ago when he had less miles on the clock.
No. 12 Daniel Johnson, a Notebook entry while at Preston. Alex Neil re signed his old player when he pitched up at Stoke and it's easy to see why....

Playing just behind the striker Johnson was always involved and barely wasted a pass, an excellent technician who can play in a variety of roles with an eye for goal. Assist for the second with a lovely weighted pass for Leris to slot home.

Now age 31, with 53 goals in 312 Preston games. After 8 years he joined Stoke at the start of this season on a 2 year deal.

Daniel Johnson the one that got away....

AND AWAY 🐟

Well guys, just thought I would highlight a player that I have championed for some time.
He was available in the Summer and we passed.....
Disappointing TBH when I put so much effort into my work 👍

EXACTLY.

Is it a scouting notebook or are you just picking a MOTM???

We need answers Nobby
Too old for your notebook Nobby. I thought you only listed younger players with potential.
I think we have an imposter.. I fear for Nobby's safety with all these wars going on and internet.. things.. it's clearly not nobby.. some cheap AI whirring round in shed in chynah.

Fingers crossed Beermonster or BoroLegend can track him down and rescue the nobster!

This is a proper notebook type entry - not just their man of the match
If we won tomorrow and got Liverpool in the next round would Mo Salah be in the notebook if he played well?
Look TC, I have championed Daniel Johnson as a great signing for Boro for a couple of years, he was available in the Summer and the recruitment team disregarded my advice...😕

Guess what ? The next time we face him he puts in a MOTM performance and his side beat us 2-0

I can't let that go now, can I ?!!!

It's MY NOTEBOOK AND HE'S IN IT 👍

It’s the difficult third album.. got to give the fans what they want.. but then you run the risk of becoming self referencing and a parody of your former

21/22 - definitely maybe
22/23 - what’s the story?
23/24 - be here now

I always thought it was the second album that was the difficult one. One hit wonders and all that....
The Nobster is beyond this syndrome, but he's just got his knickers in a twist as well as putting them on back to front on this.
He normally writes an introduction to his notebook entry evaluating all the options and giving his considered opinion why the player should be in his notebook - well jots something down on the back of a fag packet - so logically this last selection should have been referenced there along with all the usual Nobbyisms about how great and talented he personally is, how the Boro recruitment team secretly read his notebook etc. Etc.
He then lists the player who meets his selection criteria.
Hope I'm not overcomplicating what you should do Nobby.

Seems like there a few think they can do a better job ?

Look what's happened to Huddersfield Town since Neil left as a case in point..

first album is the raw potential with at least one banger

the second album shows some knowledge and is often a more polished affair.. some lose a bit of their initial charm with the polish and some lose their way altogether. more often than not it is the widely received best version.

the difficult third album often falls flat through over reaching, a concept album showcasing the drummers bagpiping skills, lawnmower solos or impromptu raps. If the third album is a clone of the previous two the audience can easily fall away.. leaving only the train spotters and pigeon fanciers.

1st Potential
2nd Progression
3rd Innovation
