Hi Sportsfans and HNY to all readers and supporters of this feature 👍

Coventry seen to have the better of us at the moment and that continued on New Year's Day, even without Viktor Gyokeres and Gus Hamer.

Previous Notebook entry (whilst at Barnsley) GK Brad Collins was in excellent form, making a fine double save from Greenwood and Rodgers and then tipping another one from Greenwood over the bar. This lad was available in the Summer, a good piece of Notebook business for Cov.

No. 9 Ellis's Simms was another previous Notebook entry but Fry seemed to get the better of him in the first half and he missed a sitter in the second. However, he made the 2 goal when his shot was bundled home by Hadji Wright.

No.10 Callum O'Hare buzzed about and linked up well, always a threat on the counter and still feeling his way black after a long injury lay off.

Nobbys choice this week was No.7 Tatsuhiro Sakamoto with a goal in each half he was the best player on view, taking his tally to 5 goals in his last 4 games.
He swept home from the edge of the box after Boro cleared a corner and then headed the third from a Bidwell Cross when unmarked.
Nearly bagged a hat-trick when hitting the post late on.

A real handful and a clever player who will surely go on the bigger and better things after his Notebook entry.

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto age 27 and now a Japanese international.Cov signed him on a 3 year contract for an undisclosed fee. Looks a good player guys 👍

I think they met us at the right time again.

We had about 14 players out.

Play offs we had Chuba carrying an injury and Howson out. Ramsey too. We also had a number of players carrying knocks like Archer. We'd also lost a bit of form and momentum over the previous 3 weeks. If we'd played them in the league 4 weeks earlier than we did, I think we would have blown them away and they wouldn't have reached the play offs.

2023/23
Coventry City - Tatsuhiro Sakamoto ✅ good player, but they won't sell
WBA - Jed Wallace ❌ had opportunities in the past and hasn't come move on
Hull City - Jacob Greaves ❌ had opportunities in the past and hasn't come move on
Ipswich -Jack Taylor ⚖️ possible if we were to go up via the play offs and they don't
Preston - Kian Best ✅
Leicester City - Wout Faes ❌ too expensive overall package for us
Stoke City - Daniel Johnson ❌ too old
Birmingham City - Emmanuel Longelo ✅✅exactly in out project zone
Cardiff - Mark McGuiness ✅
Southampton - Kyle Walker-Peters ❌ probably too big wages and fee for us, even if we went up he'd struggle to be a moneyball buy
QPR - Paul Smyth ⚖️
Huddersfield -Sorba Thomas ✅✅✅✅ I'd be all in for Thomas, and that's before torturing uslast week
Millwall - Romain Esse ✅✅ anyone holding their own in teh champo at 18 has talent

from previous years:
Blackburn Rovers - Adam Wharton ✅✅✅✅✅ excellent player at the wrong team for his talents
QPR - Chris Willock ✅ gamble with his fitness, but he's a match winner

Good Summary Marty 👍

If we have any kind of money to spend Thomas and Wharton would be my choices. I'd take Thomas now, if we have the money to tempt. I'd offer them someone like Crooks or McNair in exchange as well.

Wharton, no way we could do that without selling someone, but he would be superb alongside Hackney, offering the solidity and a bit of talent too. Sadly, I only think we could get him by selling Hackney

I think Wharton will be going to the Prem
Strong rumours about a Newcastle bid 👍

Ruddy ‘ell Nobby, that wasn’t difficult, everyone in the stadium yesterday would have picked Sakamoto.
That is a case of ‘state the bleeding obvious’ 😀
Bobby Thomas was a good acquisition for them.. didn’t seem to put a foot wrong. 22yo.. from Burnley ex Crewe Alexander.. maybe one for the footer notes.

I actually thought the 2 centre backs did really well and kept Coventry in the game in the first half, they did have a struggle keeping Coburn in check and he got away for the goal 👍

Coventry right back Milan van Ewijk was the pick for me up and down the wing all game 3.4 m summer signing we could do with someone similar
Yeah he did well in the second half getting forward 👍 Gestured to the ref that Greenwood had fouled him 4 times and got him booked. Greenwood wasn't impressed and refused to shake his hand in the aftermath....

My pick would be manager Mark Robins. Took a financial basket case like Coventry to the brink of the premier league from division 2. His tactics against us have been top notch. Kept it tight throughout the playoffs to snatch the win when we had a fine array of attacking talent. This year took advantage of the lack of pace up front and an injury hit side and pressed us high up the field. Surprised that there hasn't been more premier League interest.

Completely agree 👍
