No good luck message to Spence from MFC

Whenever a departure is confirmed on the MFC website it is always followed up with a good luck message. Not in Spence's case. Definitely a bad apple.

Glad he has gone. We will be watching him playing for Southend in a couple of years. Bad attitude.
Can you give us some examples of when his bad attitude has shown please.

I really think he is a great signing for spurs and will have a very good future in the game.

Ah ok. I was just looking at the confirmation on the MFC site but it seems on twitter we have wished him luck. 👍

Be interesting to see how he gets on at Spurs, definitely a talent. Forest seemed to get the best out of him. Can he take that form to the next level and perform consistently? When he played for us I always thought he was too inconsistent. Excellent one game, zero impact the next.

Well he was released by Fulham because of his attitude, so there's one.

Warnock spoke of him being premier league or non league dependent on his attitude, so there's two.

NormanConquest on this board has alluded to some very serious behaviours he was personally impacted by, and related to him being shipped out, so there's an admittedly unvalidated third.

It doesn't take much to put two and two together, and a few things come to mind are at least seem very "off":

1: Not changing his profile from Forest when he left Forest, but he changed it from Boro the second it was announced - Twitter
2: Praising Forest on twitter, saying once a red always a red, which is possibly also a dig at Boro - Twitter
3: No mention of Boro at all (played twice as many games for us), since he signed a new contract in Feb 20 - Twitter
4: Digging at Warnock when Forest got promoted - Twitter
5: Warnock alluding he had an attitude problem and it was this which would control his destiny, as ability was never in doubt (premier league or non league) - Warnock
6: Boro letting him go - MFC
7: Wilder saying he had no intention of coming back after Forest - Wilder
8: Boro not recalling him in Jan - MFC
9: Forest not signing him, surely they would have if they wanted to, and surely someone with a decent attitude would have been willing to give it a year or two at the club he apparently loved so much - Forest
10: No other clubs bidding for him, despite him clearly being available and loads of people banging on about him - Prem League
11: Released by Fulham apparently due to attitude/ behaviour

Nothing new in what has been said over and over again but they all point to his falling out with Warnock that led to him being bombed out to Forest with the exception of your final comment when he had not made one appearance in league football. Giving him the benefit of the doubt he was very popular at Forest, played very well and helped them to promotion and praises their fans to the skies. That’s not an example of a bad attitude. We shall see how he progresses.

It all adds up, people don't generally become a bell end instantly, additionally people don't often make judgements on people after a second, it's typically through a culmination of things.

He went out on loan, nearly every young player goes out on loan numerous times. It's not the first time a £2-3m player has gone out on loan, but it's the first time I've ever heard of a £10m+ player being kept out on loan from champ to champo, when there's a recall option in that loan, even if we did have that position covered.

Isiah Jones hadn't played one single league minute of championship football, or anything at that level before we sent Spence out on loan (63 appearances), who was supposedly worth 2-3m at the time, that seems a bit off to me. We wouldn't have done that after one isolated event unless it was really, really, really bad (nobody would), and I would be surprised if the club 100% sanctioned that based on Warnock making a decision after one instance.

There is no reason to give him the benefit of the doubt, as you only generally do that when there would be no historical president for an assumed action. If anything you should be doing the opposite as he's certainly not done anything which has shown him to have a great attitude, especially when at Boro (his longest club).

Add to that list:
12: His body language always looked terrible, but like I've said before, can't make an assumption on that singularly.
13: Woody also dropped him because of his attitude

I think anyone signing him expects he has had attitude problems, the same way people sign Ibrahimović/ Pogba/ Balotelli etc, knowing they have a screw loose, but they're just willing to take a risk on that and people do change, but he's shown nothing to suggest he's changed yet.

Seems Conte didn't want him either, was a club decision:
"Spence is an investment of the club. The club wanted to do it. I said ‘OK, this player is young but he showed he can become a good, important player for us’. The club decided to buy him.”

Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up back out on loan in Jan, possibly back to a lower level Prem team, but I expect Conte will give him a go or at least have some time with him to assess him against the rest of the squad.

Conte won't tolerate any bad attitudes, a manager who takes no sh*t. So he must have done his homework and assumed there was little risk - based in his 9 month stint at Forest.

Spence was at Boro as an 18-21yr old, still a kid with a massive amount of growing up to do. Although we gave him a second chance, developed him, he clearly had issues with the managers he played under - why, we may never know. Woody trying to stamp his authority? Warnock......joins a long list of players he's fell out with. Cooper knew how to manage him and got the best out of him, so .......🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Didn't work out for him, he's gone, we could end up with £20m. We move on.

And I personally don't give one sh*t about players gushing over their former clubs, posting all over social media - it's just flavour of the month. He doesn't like us, so what?

When he grows up he may appreciate Boro's role in getting him where he is today.

Thats a very long post Andy. Part of me thinks you are personally invested in the mans failure to spend so much time rubbishing him. Happy to move on now and good luck to him once again.

The lad is a pr*ck, he has a massive grudge against the club because of Warnock - and probably the board for backing Warnock's decision at the time, which they're obviously gonna do - He has no respect for the club whatsoever. I reckon he looks out for our results and hopes we get beat every week. I hope he fails at Spurs, i hope he fails at his loan moves and amounts to nothing. Absolutely ****. I'd love us to get them in the cup at home again and someone absolutely snap the little pr*ck but guarantee he would have some illness or ailment which meant he couldn't play, similiar to when Cattermole was at Sunderland.

That is a really bitter post.
Am sure we will all be grateful for the Djed cash injection.

Cattermole is completely different though as Lee was and is a boro fan he never wanted to leave he was drummed out by Southgate.

Look at gibbo’s comments since that of all his regrets letting Lee go was his biggest.

The fact he’s now back in the boro fold proves this.

So there was nothing wrong with lee’s attitude at all. WE SOLD HIM.

It is a bit of a worry that Gibson's biggest regret (if true) is letting Lee Cattermole go.
I have nowt against Cattermole personally, but he is a pretty irrelevant figure in our history really. Nobody gave much of a thought about him leaving for a fee he was worth. There was just frustration at the lack of a replacement.
I never watched Catts again after he left and rated him, or wished we has never sold him, or had re-signed him.

He will be loaned out in January the big headed t*** !

I bring excitement and speed ……🤣
shame for spurs you don’t bring any defensive talent

There were also the comments from Downing which while relatively mild also spoke to a somewhat lackadaisical attitude and an inability to turn up on time (probably a reflection of his overall attitude as well).
