No fans of course it’s a pen

Absolutely robbed

10 men gifted that to them.

From the sky bias to the No fans to the ref ever been stitched up

Boro playing against 11 players plus the ref and the lino who gave the pen, presumably wanting to make a name for himself and from Seaham.:giggle:

Doesn't matter where it happened. No offence took place for me.

Goodman, the clueless tosser, banging on about Stewart being pulled back, yet he fell forward?

As a ref I can tell you they got that completely wrong.

First of all I didn’t think it was really a foul. Both grabbing at each other and then a tangle of legs. If that’s a foul then the one on Akpom just now was too.

Secondly it’s clearly outside the box.

Thirdly, if it is a pen then it isn’t a red. New double jeopardy rule - it was a genuine attempt for the ball. Pen and no red card.

So whichever way you look at it was a calamity of errors.

That was my initial thought so I looked for the ruling but unfortunately the referee direction is:-
“Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off."”

But that goes back to the original point. They were both jostling in an attempt to get the ball. The truth is that there was no foul but it absolutely was an attempt to play the ball. Both battling to get to the ball.

Absolutely agree that it wasn’t a penalty but once the referee decided it was a penalty then the red card had to be given.

No but that’s not true. All you could see is a genuine attempt for the ball ergo no red.
My point is not that the penalty decision but the point you made
“Thirdly, if it is a pen then it isn’t a red. New double jeopardy rule - it was a genuine attempt for the ball. Pen and no red card.”
The referee decided to award the penalty for pulling the opponent once he decided it was a penalty the direction for that offence is a Red card. Therefore it does not fall foul of the double jeopardy.
