NO FA gesture to show solidarity with Israel tragedy

I'm not so sure that it's a good idea.
On one hand it is monstrous behaviour by Hamas which is being rightly condemned, on the other it's a supremely complex situation around Palestine and not one I believe that football should get involved in.
As you say Jedi, the Saudi ownership up the road might not like it and it'd be really unfair on the players and staff of Newcastle to be thrust into an argument many of them will know little about.

Even ignoring the rights and wrongs of the situation, the Premier League is a global product and a business, and they have far more Arab and Muslim customers who'll they'll risk alienating by showing support.

Plus 4 of the Premier League clubs are Arab owned.

I'm not surprised they're reluctant to take a stance.

It's also far more controversial to do so now, with Israel's heavy handed and indiscrimate respond.

There's a good thread on this subject on the Sunderland board.

The majority believe that all these tributes have gone far enough, what with minutes silences for things like earthquake victims a thousand miles away. The consensus seems to be that there should be one around Remembrance day and maybe one at the last home match of the year for those fans and ex players who died in the previous 12 months.

I tend to agree.

A period of silence will also be held before kick-off.

In a statement, the FA said it will "remember the innocent victims of the devastating events in Israel and Palestine".

"Our thoughts are with them, and their families and friends in England and Australia and with all the communities who are affected by this ongoing conflict. We stand for humanity and an end to the death, violence, fear and suffering."

It added that it will only allow flags and kits of competing nations inside Wembley during England's game against Australia on Friday, and the

Which is the right answer. Picking a side after hundreds / thousands of years of rights and wrongs by pretty much everybody is not something that is easy to do. The victims in all this are as usual the normal everyday people caught up through no fault of their own - and they are on both sides.

It’s more the banning of flags being taken into the ground they I think is the big PR potential pitfall

You can imagine people showing images of use Israeli flags being seized it’s a daft thing to say to be honest.

I disagree. I think that it is sensible to avoid any conflict over flag waving for Israel or Palestine as tensions are running so high. The FA are quite correct in not taking sides, and I imagine the Premier League will certainly not want to get involved at all (for obvious reasons!).

You don’t think now there’ll be an influx of fans taking these same flags into to the game now just to make a point.

Not an influx, no. But you could be right that there may be one or two people trying to make a point by taking flags in. Most people with tickets will not be bothered. They will just be wanting us to get one over the convicts, or vice-versa.
