No crowds as a leveller

Watching the liverpool game yesterday and there is no way they would have played like that with a full anfield crowd baying then on. As big premier league club bully teams and more importantly bully referees ( or more specifically linesman) to make narrow calls but with out that bear pit atmosphere - Leeds just played their normal game and intimidated a normally rock solid defence.

I think Friday was similar as conceding early is normally fatal for us as sides up their game looking for that second goal but as we saw that didn’t happen and we did come back at them and could have easily sneaked an equaliser.

so I think as we saw at the tail end of last season the zero atmosphere games may well level the or at least even out the playing field.

What do others think.

Look at the results: home v away
Prem 2-2
Champs 4-6
SPL 3-3

Only a snapshot of yesterday but supports the 'common-sense' view that home advantage is, to an extent, crowd dependent

I think that a fair point. Would Be interested to what the results looked like without crowds and if it does have an impact ie compared to previous years fixtures. One things for certain if it in any way impact negatively on the big team things will change. BTW How long are crowds banned for?

I think the answer is 'nobody knows'. Plans for a staged return are back up in the air now. Any revised schedule is just as likely to be scrapped as implemented.

One of my thoughts was that getting Watford away out of the way before they got crowds in would be beneficial, as it would be one of our trickier away fixtures.

Seem to remember reading some analysis of the results which shows that there has been a pretty significant upturn in away wins, post lockdown. And seeing as you can just look at the maths I think that edges us closer to it being fact rather than opinion.

I also think it should put to bed the idea that the Riverside crowd is a difficult one to play in front of, given we list all our home games and won our away games.

Some analysis I would be interested in seeing is the difference playing without a crowd impacts results, Vs the way being a man down impacts results, to see if the home crowd really are the extra man.

No home advantage whatsoever. It was seen very early in Germany during the restart.

Boro won 4 on the road. That would have been unheard of and a first even for Warnock.

5 away wins in the champo yesterday. Leicester winning at West brom today and Everton currently 0-1 up. It just proves how much a crowd can influence a game and more so a referee. I agree that the amount of fouls seems to be massively reduced. I don't think people are going in 'as hard'.
