Night out. Warwick or Leamington Spa?

Has anybody been out in this neck of the woods at all?

We have a golf weekend booked at the Warwickshire Golf and Country club and the two closest towns are the above. We're all mid 30s so not exactly looking for a rave but would be good to know where we can get a decent night out.

I’ve been on a golf weekend to RLS before and it was a decent night out. Loads of pubs and bars, some wouldn’t allow big group of lads in mind. We ended up in a club called the Ballroom IIRC. I had a blinding hangover the next day on the first tee.

Had quite a few Thursday nights out in Leamington Spa, albeit a few years back. I used to break up my drive back from Portsmouth and stay over there. Had some great nights and some pretty dull nights but even on my own it never felt dangerous (or is that a whoosh for me  )

I couldn't tell you where to go now, but even then one night a certain bar/club would be bouncing, the next time I was there it was dead or closed.

I usually stayed at the Travel Inn right in the centre on the Main Street, with Weatherspoons across the road for breakfast.

Warwick has a few decent pubs and two top notch Spanish restaurants last time I was there, but I suspect that not what you're after!

If Leamington has a Travel Inn AND a Weatherspoons, that would swing it for me.

And for me. I’d avoid the place like the plague.

Lovely socialist snobbery, but hardly untypical of this place  . Where would you two recommend then Malmaison or Radisson Blu perhaps or do they not keep the Chateau Margaux 2021 Premier Cru at the appropriate temperature either. FFS:rolleyes:

Sorry meant to say Premier Inn (although I did stay in the Travel Lodge once) if that helps. I will add that it was only for a night each time and they're both in the beautiful old Georgian buildings on the main street in a very central location with car parking nearby. Location, location, location. ....... and no one can seriously complain about a full English breakfast at Weatherspoons.

I also mentioned them because as a male group wanting a stop over, decent but cheap accommodation in a good location for one night it just might be what they're looking for.

But, your posts were equally helpful so crack on.

My post must have been a help as you gave it a like 😃
I do use both travel/premier inns and weatherspoons as it happens.
I also have a sense of humour, according to some.

I used to work at the Warwickshire 20 years ago. The IT centre for the group was in the the old farmhouse at the back of the clubhouse. I lived in Warwick for 6 months, it's nice but not much of a night out, the market square had a couple of good pubs and some nice eateries. Leamington got more options well it did 20 years ago.

Let me know how the course is looking and which if the 4 9 loops you play

I think it's more about what is the point in visiting somewhere, to have the same bland generic chain crap you can get at home or any town. I don't get that myself. Try a small local hotel and a non-chain pub, you might actually experience something new. 🤷‍♂️ Not sure what people's political persuasion have to do with anything mind, I'm sure a Tory wouldn't go to those chains either.

Are you staying at the Warwickshire. I only ask because the Leamington Premier Inn is really well located (if you're looking for where to stay too). Quite a few good bars in Leamington Spa within easy walking distance. Warwick a bit more spread out, apart from around the market place.

There is more than that, but as I said I mentioned them because as a male group wanting a stop over, decent but cheap accommodation in a good location for one night it just might be what they're looking for.

I was being largely sarcastic with my reply tbh.

Went to Leamington years ago as an old mate lived there- only thing I remember was that his local was called “The Haunch of Venison”
