Nicola Bulley still missing

Ironically, after all the talk of amateur detectives getting in the way, it appears they were the ones who actually found her. That's going to make it much harder to keep the public away next time there's a social media frenzy like this.

The guy on LBC this morning suggested it was a dog walker. He also said that he deals with around 10 cases like this a year and it is dog walkers typically who do come across the bodies.

I don't think a dog walker could be classed as an amateur detective.

You also have to wonder how many cases there are like this a year and why this one received so much coverage. I have heard it suggested that a white 'middle class' female going missing is particularly attractive to the media. There was also speculation that the media / amateur detectives might have been thinking about releasing information about her mental health prompting the police to get ahead of this. By the way I don't think it is the job of the police to get ahead of media stories!

When I lived in York there was plenty of stories in the York Press of people falling in the Ouse and not been found for a period of time - none of those made the national media like this. They were usually white males either drunk or some with mental health problems.

I personally witnessed a white male, drunk, jump in the Ouse near the Sam Smith's pub and saw the attempts to throw him a life ring. Unfortunately the final throw was around a metre away from him and the last thing we saw was his hand going under the water. I think the poor man was found 2-3 days later. It just goes to show that even when you know the exact point and circumstances of someone going into the river it is still incredibly hard to find them.

That sight will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Are the comments on here saying the guy who offered his services has a lot to answer for, actually for real?

Investigations will find if there was any fault in the work of the police. I don't think there was ultimately. Even those who blamed the police for releasing the info about her medical issues gloss over the fact the family gave the police the go ahead to release that statement.

Is also worth mentioning that the medical information would be disclosed at the coroners inquest too.

Absolutely tragic.

Appreciate its hindsight may be even speculative until we know the true outcome of the investigations but maybe they should have checked any natural traps downstream before going to search the sea.
Kinda makes sense that a reed bed would be a place to look.

I read that the self proclaimed expert diver has said that the body was found in reeds and only a search from surface wearing waders would have helped locate the body. So did no one actually think it might be a good idea to search the reeds, which form part of the river?

I'm sorry but he categorically stated that her body was not in the river. He was wrong and his spouting off actually poured fuel on the fire which was the ridiculous speculation.

The guy seems to be a bit of a crank doesn't he.

He was involved in the search at the request of the family, after the police divers had finished their search, so technically I don't even think he's part of the police investigation.

He just doesn't know when to observe a dignified silence does he.

I’ve noticed Sky News have blocked comments on all the Facebook stories relating to it. Not out of compassion for Nicola and her family but because her partner called them out for contacting him yesterday whilst he was grieving, despite explicitly telling them not to and all the comments were slagging them off.

Meanwhile Kay Burley was on the scene this morning like a wolf in sheep’s clothing asking ridiculous questions of locals.. you’d have thought she’d have learned her lesson after the awful interview she did when people were looking for poor little April Jones.

Sky and itv were picked out for scathing comments from the family statement and rightly so for not respecting their privacy yesterday…. I was watching sky and it was hilarious that they didn’t mention that stinging Criticism of themselves….pretty telling really

It wasn't a dog walker, it was a "psychic medium" who was searching for her:

What a terrible tragedy. And to make it worse for a grieving family with two young children, you get the news media pitching up at their house after they’d publicly asked for privacy in what will most likely be the most traumatic time of their lives.

Only our news media could behave in such a way to make an appalling, desperately sad situation even worse with their arrogant, entitled and sociopathic behaviour.

Personally I think the broadcasting licences of ITV News and Sky News should be revoked until further notice.

Quickest way to shut these broadcasters down is to not watch, nobody watching. No add revenue, very soon no show.

didn't he only search down as far as the weir in any event?

If she went in of her own doing, clearly she must have walked down past the weir, in a very small window between the last sighting of her and the finding of the phone & dog

I still think there may be more to come on this story once the PM is done.

This thread should be either removed by admin or at the very least closed for further discussion.

The poor women has been found and yet there are still people speculating about what happened , where she went into the river, who did or didn't find her.

This isn't an episode of midsummer murders with a strange twist at the end.
