NHS still in danger

Don't forget chaps, that despite the ongoing crisis, SloBo and his gang are looking at trade deals with USA that could put the future of the NHS in danger

We can see from his reaction to Covid 19 that the snouts of the big boys are more important than the lives of many.

I am hoping this virus crisis will be the NHS’s finest hour to date and will seal the deal with the UK public that it is a no go area for the Tory Party.

There is already massive media coverage that our critical care is under resourced compared to other countries and it is clear there is no spare capacity for anything. I have no connection with the medical profession but I find it quite unbelievable that the medical staff do not have the PPE to do their jobs and keep themselves safe, that would be prosecutable in any other industry (and may yet be in this case).

You no longer hear the right wing idiots like Farage (where‘s he just now?) and others asking if we can afford the NHS, and I know they will be back, but how far out of touch do they sound now?

I hope we minimise the deaths but one thing is for sure nobody is in any doubt that our NHS and its staff will do everything it can to save people and that is because it is founded on very solid principles which put the well-being of people above the false gods of money and profit. Long may that continue. Best wishes to all on the frontline.

Sorry but give me the US over Putin every day of the week.

When was the last time the US poisoned Salisbury? Putting 100's at risk.

I think CtC has the most blinkered views in here.

There was no need for the level of austerity and it's come back to bite us , however we are part of a world epidemic we need to worry about tomorrow then question yesterdsy

It's just as bad, if not worse, here in the States.

The situation there is made worse by trumps ego and his contradictory tweets going against his own medical experts.

The man is a buffoon

From NBC

His arrogant belief in American exceptionalism has often resulted in the scapegoating of other nations — Mexico, for example. And those nations tend, generally, not to like it. Here, he's antagonizing China at the absolute worst time. We need to be learning from Chinese doctors and officials, not causing an international incident.

Justifying his use of the term Tuesday, Trump said he was pushing back on a conspiracy theory — that did, in fact, start in China — blaming the U.S. military for spreading the disease. "China was putting out information, which was false, that our military gave this to them. That was false. And rather than having an argument, I said I had to call it where it came from. It did come from China. So I think it's a very accurate term," Trump said.

True, but the whole private health care system is a complete mess. I work for a non-profit hospital/med school group in Manhattan and it's no joke to say that, normally, the marketing department is the most important. On top of that, hospitals are not allowed to turn anyone away and our main campus is in East Harlem, across from "the projects" - City-owned tower blocks. Most of them are uninsured and use our ER as primary healthcare.

Did you see his comments about the “cure” not based on any medical evidence oh no but he has “a good feeling about it”.

The contrast between Trump's hype and Fauci's scientific method played out like reality TV on Friday as both appeared to contradict each other during a remarkable White House news briefing. "I disagree," Trump said, with Fauci nearby. "I feel good about (the treatments). That's all it is. Just a feeling. You know, I'm a smart guy."

Both Trump and Johnson are malignant narcissists. Just about the worst type of people you want managing in a crisis.

I think the big difference between the two is that Trump is savouring the limelight and enjoying playing the role of the ‘saviour’ of mankind, whereas Johnson is giving me the impression that this running the country lark which was all meant to be a lot of fun and japes is a lot more serious than he thought and he suddenly realises hasn’t got all the answers.

Another gem

"It's going to disappear. One day it's like a miracle, it will disappear," Trump said at the White House Thursday as the virus marched across Asia and Europe after US officials said the US should brace for severe disruption to everyday life.

I agree that Johnson is a lesser version. However his suggestion he will fix it in 12 weeks is an example. Also he is a compulsive liar. There is lots of evidence to show this. Plus he thinks he is above the law. Again there is evidence to support this.

In the Dr Jack interview on another thread he said 12 weeks was possible if folks followed the isolation approach. Guess he was lying too in your eyes.

Possible if. Then Johnson did not implement a policy to make it happen He still has not done it.
