NHS pay rise 1%

Nurses don't live on the streets. Some ex forces guys do.

It's not a competition by the way. Both the armed forces and the NHS have been cut over the years.

@uncle_rico 's stance is perfectly fine, it shouldn't just be the NHS. What about police, fire brigade, teachers etc.

Uncle Rico was wrong though, the Armed Forces have received a pay rise.

Everyone deserves a pay rise but everyone can't have one. But the NHS has done a great job so it seems fair to reward them. 1% is a derisory amount though. It's just another Tory own goal. They shouldn't have bothered.

At least they still have jobs. How many people are unemployed because of whats happened over the last 12 months?

I wasn’t wrong. I never said that the armed forces hadn’t received a pay rise.

Do bin men deserve a pay rise? They have worked throughout the last year.

But their jobs have meant they've had to work all through lockdown so should all NHS workers get a 12 month holiday at furlough rates?

Bet they'd love to catch up on some box-sets and moan about having to wear masks everywhere.
What a lovely way to shot everybody in the same basket. 🤔

As mentioned above me what about bin men? Who've consistently come into contact with hazardous waste every day?

Pay rises for all.

Why should anyone have a job.

Bob the Skiver got laid off in 1982 and hasn't worked since.

Why should anyone else be allowed to earn a living?

I was pointing out the stupidity of coming into the thread and suggesting we reduce everything to the lowest common denominator despite 4 pages of people arguing coherently that we need to level up, not down.

Sorry if I ruffle any feathers here but who do you feel more sorry for?

An NHS worker who STILL has a job and has received a pay rise (regardless of how low).

Or the person with a partner and kids who lost their job or had to permanently close their pub/restaurant, and is now worrying where the next lot of money is coming from?

Why does it have to be one or the other?

Go and start a thread about the plight of people suffering job losses due to Covid and you'll get a hundred replies from sympathetic posters (and a few from Tories pretending to play Devil's Advocate).

This is a thread about the derisory pay-rise on offer to NHS staff who've had their own problems through the Covid crisis.

I feel sorry for the 625 families of NHS workers now without a father, mother, sister or brother. All the friends and colleagues of those 625 who walked inadequately protected into danger to save others and that is worth 1%.

Those guys you are more concerned about will get a new job they will get to open a new business. The 625 won't.

Just a thought knowing how the whole Tory party thrive on publicity and Boris loves to be seen to be riding on a white horse to save the day (see vaccine rollout).

1% suggested/advised pay rise gets in to the public domain.

Outcry by everybody, its not enough they scream, nurses deserve more, 1% is an insult.

Hold on who's that on the horizon, it's Boris on his trusty steed, here's 3% my true heros.

Boris you are the saviour of the NHS we all love you, how could those pesky left wingers ever doubt you.

They only want to sell the NHS off piece by piece. Invest in private sector, sell bits of NHS off to said private enterprise under the guise of efficiency or cost saving.

Hell have none of you noticed how recently Tories have been demanding thanks for some of these private companies and toned down the NHS rhetoric. Anyone who thinks these thieves want an efficient NHS with staff paid what they deserve need to pit the pipe down.

Isn't this the point. The difference between a "bin man's" wage and a nurse is not that big. With respect to refuge collectors, they don't study for three years unpaid to aquire a degree. They don't have the aptitude, responsibility or the emotional investment. If you want able people to look after your loved ones you need to pay for it. This wouldnt be an issue but wages have been suppressed for 10 years, even without Covid it is clear they are severely undervalued and taken for granted.

By the end of your post you've decided it is.

Why?

Just read nurses are considering strike action.

Absolutely no chance of Nurses voting to strike. I was a Steward for part of my time in Nursing . Even when we had pickets outside there would be a fully staffed hospital behind us. RCN are hoping the threat and public opinion being behind them will be enough to change the governments offer.

See you are gaslighting now Randy...
It's on sky news.

Pak nailed it on the head. It's what the Tories have done since they were elected, leak something to the press and then come in with a better offer making them (in their eyes) the hero.

No way will they have genuinely been offered a 1% pay increase in this climate.

If strike action is what it takes for bigger increase then that's their choice and I'll support it.
