NHS pay rise 1%

It is absolutely shocking, but its 1% more than teachers have had in the last god knows how many years. My wife has worked without an extensive break for almost a year now, and she is as deserving. I'm no way saying that NHS staff should be grateful for their 1%, but lots of others in both public and private sectors aren't getting anything.

it's a tricky one but i'm not sure you could say all NHS staff (this includes a very large number of admin / non frontline staff) are more deserving than any other emergency service, teachers, social care workers etc.

You are not wrong to highlight this rico, what I would say though is the emotional trauma health professionals have gone through this year is beyond what would be expected in any profession. They deserve rewarding more than most.

It's easier to garner support and sympathy for nurses on the front line than for teachers who only work about 8 weeks of the year (joke).

Its an insult to every normal and ordinary person in the UK - that through-out this killing machine of an epidemic - this government who have given billions of pounds away to their cronies and mates mate - value our front line NHS staff at 1%.

the proposer of that offer should be placed in stocks one day at a time for 8 hours of that day at every regional city across the uk - then painted in whitewash and placed on a plinth in Trafalgar Square every day for a Month.- rotten fruit and vegetables made freely available to hoy at the waste of space for bringing shame on the nation.

I understand what you are saying, but my wife has also suffered emotionally, as have many of her coleagues - I know of some have suffered breakdowns as a result. A fair old number have suffered from Covid too, as a result of no policies (or PPE) in place, and some have also died. The NHS is at the forefront, but there are many others who have worked just as hard to keep the country going. The other issue I have is that many parents have sent their kids to school whilst they sit at home getting p!ssed. We were entitled to send our kids in as we have a key worker in the family, but we didn't feel that it was the right thing to do, when I can fit in caring and schooling around my work. It hasn't been easy but we didn't want to put the extra strain on the school.

1% for nurses equates to about £4 a week. Its an utter joke, especially when so much has been watsed on track and trace etc, but NHS staff aren't the only ones who should be getting a raise. Most are getting nothing.

How do you get to the 1% figure? Was there some discussion with the cabinet, were some members actually asking for a pay cut, some for a 5% rise and they came to an agreement at 1% increase and then thought. Yes that’s right and fair

When I read this last night I was genuinely shocked. That’s an easy thing to say online, but I was actually physically taken aback that they would even be prepared to be seen to do this. I think it would have been less insulting to do nothing at all.

Rico mate they’ve got you hook line and sinker. Of course the teachers deserve a rise, as do policemen, firemen etc. That’s exactly attitude they want us to have “ we’re getting nothing so they should get nothing”! The race to the bottom suits the Tories down to the ground. If they can’t get you subscribed to that they’ll try the emotional blackmail tact, it‘s all a political philosophy and greed.

And yet it was only a few days ago that plenty of people on this message board - and some contributors to this very thread - were saying what a brilliant budget Sunak had delivered

They haven’t got me anything. This government are a shambles, but I can see the bigger picture rather than just the sensational headlines pushed by the left wing media.

625

625 doctors and nurses won't be getting that pay rise, they contracted COVID and died trying to save others. Working double shifts through the peaks of the outbreak given inadequate or no PPE and now we reward them with this. And we are yet to see the long term effects on their mental health that this will trigger.

Don't try to excuse it by talking about teacher, care assistants and others. Fight this fight, win it and then fight it again for the other deserving workers. Don't believe the lie about no money when they buy off the Ulster Unionists or fund a failing Serco Track and Trace system then label it as "NHS". Money for their chums and sponsors but not for the workers and their heroes.

Disgusting.

Previously the Government said that the NHS would not be included in the proposed public workers pay freeze, so a 1% rise is the least they think they can get away with without technically being bare faced liars (not that they seem to care too much about that mind)

absolutely bang on.

Especially galling given the amount of money thrown at Serco et al as part of the Covid response.

£22 Billion for a track and trace that has never worked and will never work. Someone needs to be help accountable.
