NHS Bonus

The award in itself is good, but she is basically putting the uk government over a barrel with the blackmail-esque ‘please ensure it’s tax free’. If they don’t they’re bad guys and her indyref drum will beat louder. If they do, then a precedent is set for future blackmail. Personally, I don’t think it is a good look or a truly honourable / non-political gesture on her part.

Should be extended to teachers
Yes, probably exposed to a higher risk than anyone outside the NHS, along with the testing workers. But this really is just a political gambit. If she really does value the contribution of all the NHS workers then add a few quid / hour on their basic pay. I really hate these sort of gestures.

Exactamundo

Why announce this at the SNP conference and not at say oh I don’t know during a daily briefing to the nation.

Do they get a pay rise too?

Most public sector unions prefer a pay increase rather than a non consolidated bonus.

Its not pensionable. With pensions now career average id prefer a pay increase than the bonus

My son could do with it. Being a Health Care Assistant at a City A+E his wages are tosh and would be better off on benefits but wants to work for his money.

Maybe I do, maybe I don’t, but you would compare a teachers contribution during this pandemic as equal to a front line NHS workers?
Before you start accusing me of making unfounded comparisons, you do realise the £500 is promised to all NHS and social care worker in Scotland, don't you?

its not just "front line NHS workers"

I'm meant what I said. It wasn't to get a bite so I'll leave this thread now.
cheers

Fair do’s

Many front line care workers wouldn't have been on the 'front line' without being able to drop their youngsters off with teachers who (sometimes against union advice) were working through the school breaks.
