Ruptured his ACL on international duty. That’s a lot of pennies to be earned for not doing much for the next year. No more roly polys for a while either.

Wow 350m investment and he's likely to only play about 25 games for them when he gets back in 12-14 months and even then he's unlikely to be peak ability level.

Financially to the Saudis it's just a massive "meh". And I'm sure they just want the name rather than what he can actually do in these exhibition games. Sorry, I mean Saudi Pro League or whatever it's called......

Slow oil production down for a bit, money recouped in a couple of days.

Obviously they wouldn't do anything of the sort, what with their impeccable moral standards.....🙄

He seems to be missing a lot of football due to injuries, and had several months out after ankle operations before leaving PSG. I wonder if his body is telling him to pack in.
Does seem that way. Seems to happen to a lot of Brazilian players, Ronaldo being the most notable but Juninho in our own experience, injuries ruined him before he’d even peaked. He wasn’t the same player either time he returned.

The flicks and tricks must hammer the ankles over time, added to get it fouled a lot.

He’s another one playing men’s football every week as a 16 year-old boy. He’s been booted from pillar to post for 15 years and it takes its toll on the body. You can say some of his decision-making off the field may have had an impact along the line, and he is a prolific diver, but he has also been targeted with repeated kicks to the lower-legs for his entire career.

I feel like there must be a link to the amount of games some of these players are expected to play whilst carrying injuries, purely because of how good they are.

Closer to home, look at Michael Owen. Playing week in week out from 17 yr old, back end of his career wasn't anywhere near the player he was at his teenage/early 20s? prime.

Then see how Ferguson handled Giggs from an early age. Played until he was 40......🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Think some players have bodies just not built for the rigours of modern football - Gazza was a classic example.

I heard a podcast recently that was talking about when Michael Owen broke through and how Roy Evans knew he needed to take him out of the team, but couldn’t do it because he was the best player and he needed to win games.

Giggs was playing regularly at 17 or so but he did have huge issues with his hamstrings for a couple of years as a young player. I actually think that being injured and not playing every single minute at 19, 20, 21 may have helped prolong his career. Plus the fact he was never available to play friendly matches for Wales.

I heard yesterday as well that Jude Bellingham has already played 15,000 minutes of senior competitive football. At the same age, Gerrard and Lampard had played around 3000. I would imagine Bellingham will be done by 32 if he carries on playing at the rate he has been.

Yeah, was weird how he was always injured for Wales friendlies........ rotten luck.......🙄🙄

A fantastic player who should have never left Barca. Shame about his injury though, I can't see him playing on much longer unless he wants to play in the next WC.

Think Ben Foster covers this a bit on one of his podcasts. Basically saying pretty much no player on a match day is 100% fit, they'll all be carrying some niggle to some degree.

Depends on the player and manager and manager how much they'll play with an injury.

The strain on the body, particularly of the modern game where pretty much every player now is about as finely tuned an athlete as possible, must be immense.

It must have been unusual for him to be rolling on the floor with a genuine injury

Wasted half of his career purely because he was narcissist who was desperate to get out from under Messi's shadow.

Cracking player and a massive bell end.

by the time neymar was 25 he had played more games than paul scholes had in his whole career. use players like a bar of soap and this what happens. Pedri will be just the same in a few years. Bellingham needs to be careful also

Saka is the same too.

It's slightly concerning that Arsenal (who will no doubt have the best equipment and most qualified experts in this field) have continued to play him, knowing he's been carrying an injury for some time.

No surprise he broke down in the CL game away to Lens.

He's only 22 years old, so they need to be careful with him, or we might have another 'Owen' on our hands.

It really is ridiculous how so many clubs have no regard for players health.

With his ego I would expect he does, and it's unlikely he will be the same player, he'll be a 34 year old with several years of serious injuries behind him. He would hinder Brazil, but at least it will massage his ego one last time

It's easy to cherry pick players like that but it's not representative. Messi and Ronaldo have played lots of games, been lucky with injuries, had the same issues with players trying to foul them but they are still playing. Some players look after themselves better but a lot just have to be lucky/unlucky.
