Any strong opinions?

We have looked pretty poor in our various attempts to play 4-3-3 since Monk, we have no wingers to play 4-4-2, we have no No 10 to play someone behind a striker. We have no experienced solid fullbacks for a back four (and hardly any centre backs for a three for that matter).

Do we say, Spence and Coulson suit wingbacks and we look more solid with three centre halves so we recruit around that?

Do we start clean and sign a new back four (maybe even a five with a keeper) and wait for them to gel?

Do we just ask Warnock which players he wants and let him get on with how reutilises them game by game?
 
I'd stick with wing-backs, as Spence and Coulson are effective there and will only get better.

I prefer Howson at CB so move him back into defence and sign two new CBs.

A new defensive mid is definitely needed and I'd try Tav and Browne as the two box-to-box midfielders. I like the idea of Browne, Tav and Roberts all buzzing around Fletcher.

I think wing-backs makes sense, not sure Warnock would fancy that though. I have no real affection for anyone in the squad to be honest, I'd be happy to raise money for the rebuild wherever we can get it. I think we'll have to lose someone we probably want to keep, and may end up stuck with Britt as under the current financial outlook I can't see anyone matching his £35k a week and paying a fee when they can get him on a free the season after.

It really is an awful bare bones squad. Hopefully we can get some good experience in on frees and some attacking quality in on loans.

As Warnock seems to like defenders defending I would imagine it will be 4 at the back. Not sure what his preferred system was at Cardiff. Hopefully he will be able to bring in 12-14 new players though. Keep the young uns. None of the others have shown any real heart or desire.

I can see us blinding a squad based on wing backs

Spence as a right winger, Roberts as a number 10
Coulson as a left winger, Johnson as a left winger possibly..
I can see us keeping hold of Spence & Coulson trying to get Roberts back and offering Johnson a deal.
everyone else will be up for grabs (I'd like us to keep Tavernier & Fletcher)

I suspect we’ll be seeing 4-4-2 next season if NW is here, and there’s nothing wrong with that provided, as with everything, we have the correct type of players to play it successfully

Morrison would be a brilliant signing but I reckon Cardiff will want £6-7m for him at least. He's their captain.

well a midfield of howson, mcnair, wing, saville has been the source of our issues the last two years, wing keep trying to do too much when a simpler ball is on.
A lack of attacking flair in that group and wing has a few goals in him but the other three? wing scores, howson yet to score, and wont this season now as banned. not sure how many games wing has played / minutes but sure he would be seen as the most attacking out of the 4 of them.

Wing stats, good at pot shots, not so good at covering ground and working as part of a cohesive midfield unit.

He can't be a starter in a 4-4-2 for me, unless partnered with someone immense who can cover for him and coach him through games.

Apart from an occasional pot shot, I am not sure what his other skillsets are tbh.

I think NW will build to play predominantly a 4-2-3-1 He likes a big strong unit up top, with pace behind. I think we will see a lot of incomings inc free t/f’s, a few outgoings to fund them. As for PL loans, they will be unlikely to come until after initial window shuts on 5 October Imho.

If we are going 4-2-3-1 then Spence and Coulson may be able to play as fullbacks with two midfielders to cover their forward forays.

I am not sure about Coulson as a FB. I think Spence can grow into the FB role. A lot might depend if some serious bids were made for him. Djiksteel has looked ok since he came back, although where was he for their 2nd yesterday? I think we could even see a completely new back 4, especially if Fry were sold.

I’d be selling him to be honest. If we could get the £2.5m suggested on the tranfermarkt link you put up we’d be laughing teacakes for me. We could get a much better player for half that amount.

I agree about the new back 4. If warnock is here I dont think we will see a lot of Spence at fullback in the first eleven.
