Newcastle take over would be bad for the boro

We’ve done very well out of taking players dropped from other club academies over the years. Only this week, we’ve seen Tavernier talk publicly about being released by Newcastle and snapped up by us soon after.

My view is that we have a clear and direct path to the first team which will always be very attractive. It will be a struggle, but we have to adapt and continue to churn out professional footballers. If we do that, we’ll be fine.

In recent years we have adopted a must reach the premier league at all costs, must have 2 players for every position, sack the manager early policy. This is not a good environment for young players.

If Coburn wants to play up front for us he's got sporar and uche and probably crooks in front of him. And who can blame Warnock for not risking young players. Everyone's calling for his head 10 games into the season. He needs players that get him results now.

Personally my choice for the next manager would be Alan Latchley. Dare to fail.

It appears the assumption is that the Barcodes will be able hoover up all the talent from the North East.

Thats a flawed delusion.

* They have to build a new academy fit for purpose and get it accredited.
* If they expect to spend millions on super=players, that pushes local talent down the ladder.
* The expected cash slush-bucket will hoover journeymen and players from the UK and abroad.
* There is no guarantee or need for the barcodes to have a decent scouting network in the North East - if you can afford off-the-shelf, why nurture youngsters?
* Young talent will spend more time in the U23`s and sat on the bench.
* If the dream materialises, the Skunks will "warehouse" youngsters - like Citeh and Chelski - with little chance of game time unless they move on to pastures new.

We know the Boro cant compete with the money - so we cut our cloth accordingly and look after ourselves.
Blunderland may well be in a similar position - though more eager to "compete" with their "neighbours" on the Tyne.

Let them get on with it - and maybe we can start giving our youngsters a chance?

I think the biggest worry for me with this whole takeover is the amount of Newcastle shirts that are going to start springing up on Teesside over the next decade. They are undoubtedly going to tap into our area of support. That's worrying.

Little meffs who would have supported Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City.. they might buy a Newcastle shirt instead. Teesside never really capitalised on bringing on local fans, attracting local fans imo

Sunderland might be hit in terms of supporters. Saying that.. they've got A LOT OF WORK TO DO!!

Finding a manager and players who don't mind being out of the champions league for a few years..

It didn’t seem to happen during the Keegan ‘entertainer’ years so I don’t think it’ll happen now. The dislike of Geordies is too intense I reckon

Probably because they didn't win anything, and Middlesbrough had 2 promotions, 2 cup finals and extravagent signings in the same period.

You don't get many young fans switching teams for glory supporting reasons when there's no glory.

But then I went to school with a few Newcastle and Leeds supporting lads in Redcar who are under 30 and I've seen kids wearing Tottenham shirts around here, so maybe you do.

In footballing terms when they’re down in the champo with us next season they wont look that much more attractive to a young lad wanting to start a career. They’re in for a tw@ttïng from Spurs on Sunday, probably Bruce’s last game.

I’m from Redcar myself mate and there’s always been a sizeable Leeds contingent, they are all my age (50) and above yet they deny being glory supporters even though it was watching them in the European Cup Final that got them into the horrible rats🤣

Newcastle being local 'ish' makes it far easier for glory supporters on teesside to actually go to games, against them following the likes of Utd and Liverpool 2-3 hrs away

the concern is a real threat to Boro getting young talent ... they are going to be big players in the years to come ... no doubt about that. its the worse news this year concerning footie... having one of the richest clubs in the world just up the road as our neighbours will only push us down the ladder when attracting local talent... Not really jealous but wish they would suffer a death of a thousand cuts and slide into Derby mode... not gonna happen so got to lick it up and watch the roller coaster .... UTB Long reign SG
