New years honours list is out

I haven't looked at who is on the list because it always winds me up at the names who are on it. What has Stewart Broard really done other than play a sport he likes and get paid highly for it. I would guess he's carried out a little charity work but does he deserve a gong?

Kevin Sinfield on the other hand is a total kettle of fish.

Well

Ex-rugby league players Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield become CBEs for raising awareness of motor neurone disease.

I have just read that someone who I worked with has received an MBE and I believe his is more deserved than the likes od Broad, Steering, etc. and has done a lot for young people on Teesside and the Teesside area asa whole. Not bad for a Welsh man. Kevin supported my DofE groups on several occasions, and gave numerous students the opportunity to travel from Teesport to St Petersburg via Rotterdam, Riga, Helsinki and then on to St Petersburg.

From the Gazette - Kevin Shakesheff, from Hutton Rudby, will be awarded an MBE for services to young people in business and to the maritime industry. He co-founded the High Tide Foundation after recognising the challenges faced by young people trying to enter the workforce in the Tees area. Since 2012, the foundation has delivered work experience and career programmes to better education for 6,000 young people in the North East.

He is also currently the vice chairman, Mission To Seamans (North Tees and Hartlepool) who he has encouraged and guided to support seafarers during the challenging times of the pandemic. He has committed his time as an unpaid volunteer in the above organisations whilst being the previous managing director and now chairman of Casper Shipping a growing and successful port agency, logistics and marine services groups in the UK.

In his spare time, as well as spending time with his grandchildren, Kevin enjoys diverse sports including rugby, tennis and golf, as well as the Spanish language and culture. He said: “It is a tremendous honour to receive this recognition, which comes at a milestone moment in my career, marking 50 years of my involvement with the ICS.

"I would like to offer my sincere thanks to the many colleagues at ICS, High Tide and Casper Shipping with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working over the years. A huge thank you also to my family for all the support and encouragement they continue to provide.”

There's generally three categories of recipients when it comes to the honours list.

The ones that really deserve it.

Those you they feel will be a 'popular' nomination with the public, but still don't deserve it.

Those who have donated loads of money to the Tory party in exchange for an honour, or those who are significant party donors and definitely don't deserve it.

The whole system is from a bygone era. Order of the British Empire, Member of the British Empire!

As Kevin Sinfield said. They don’t do it to receive awards. I have huge admiration for people helping others, but the honours system is designed to strengthen the class system in Britain.

The coolest people turn down the ridiculous awards.

Two cleaners from North Shore up for awards. One has been there four years! What? Bet there are a few miffed cleaners today.
