New Regent Cinema in Redcar

All seems to have gone very quiet with regard to an operator for it. From the outside it looks fantastic. I just hope its not a massive white elephant. I can't believe the council committed to rebuilding it without a contract in place for an operator.

Of course not.. they have a great track record of building quality offerings on Redcar seafront, just look at the vertical pier and the Hub!

I hear the plans for the new Monorail look fantastic too.. what could go wrong with that, just ask the people of Brockway, Ogdenville, andNorth Haverbrook

Looks brilliant, has already missed out on most of the big films this year.

Ran by clowns, the rumour is that the ticket prices would need to be stupidly high to even make it profitable now, but I'm not sure how true that is.

Sure there is other cinemas this size that run at a profit.
Why don't the council get the guy who ran the Regent for years to come back in then they run it themselves with him at the helm so to speak.

I suspect the rebuilding has been very expensive (but looks good) and rent offers from the cinema operators lower than expected.

Cinema operators are struggling against the streaming channels and lost 18 months of revenue because of Covid lockdowns.

I am looking forward to having a drink and seeing a film there.

Because the council 'found him difficult to work with'. I would imagine it would be the other way around.

What qualifications do these people have to spend the millions they do. Redcar gets a lot of money that other areas of East Cleveland doesn't and to quote our prime minister (who shouldn't use such language) they 'spaff it up the wall'.

As a young boy living on station Road I used to walk down to the regent and look at the stills from horror movies and wish I was eighteen. Oddly enough, to bookend that, I am now 57 and wish I was eighteen now too.

I'm having a Cinema Paradiso moment.

The Crimson Pirate,
It's a Mad....World,
Lawrence of Arabia,
(the Connery Bond films).
If...,
Women in Love,
The French Connection.

The national anthem (and nipping out to avoid it).

I think you are a proper film buff ;) or even a producer.

Loved the "Cinema Paradiso" reference - the Man from one of the far corners of the UK looking back 50 years ago when he was a litle boy in Redcar.

I’m no fan of the council but the Vertical pier is a focal point of the seafront, looks great on an evening (in the dark 🤪) and hosts the best bar in the town at the foot of it. The hub is full of small businesses.

Worrying the cinema issues still haven’t been resolved though. Kirky gardens was ridiculously expensive as well and from what I’ve seen isn’t even all that.

The hub is over half empty. And always has been.

As much as R&C council are a mess, the Hub is full, I tried to get space in there last month.
