New I Phone

I just don't get the high prices that you have to pay for the latest iPhone or flagship android phone from Samsung or whoever.
I currently have a Realme X2 Pro which cost under £400 and it's brilliant for anything you can chuck at it.
If I was an Instagram influencer then I could understand stumping up for something with a top-end camera. If I was a serious gamer then I could possibly justify a flagship gaming phone too.
Gladly, I'm neither of those so my Chinese phone is more than capable, plus it charges fully in 30 minutes.

No you don't need to shell out for a new one. Tell her she has to work or save for it or maybe her "peers" will chip in.
Changing the subject slightly. I would not have an Iphone given no matter what my peers said. Of about five of my friends who had one a few years ago there is only one who sticks with Apple and he always whinges about it.

I totally agree. It's easy for me to say as my kids are young and this stuff isn't on the radar, but I don't think it benefits them in the future in terms of expectation or financial management to just always get whatever they want, irrespective of how expensve it is. Not having a go at the OP there, everyone sees stuff differently.

You succumb to buying a 14 year old a £700 plus phone and an expensive monthly fee as well no doubt because of peer pressure?

Imagine the dance she's going to lead you when she's 18!

They’re also great memory reminders, the majority of photos and videos today, are taken with phones. The best camera you have is the camera that you have on you, it’s no good having a DSLR sat at home in a camera bag, you’ll always have your phone camera with you.
A good camera is great for preserving memories and moments. The photos and videos on many people’s phones are priceless.
I’m on the iPhone 8 Plus, have been since it came out, but will upgrade to the 12 pro max just because of how good the camera is.
*There will be Android(s) with decent cameras too.

I have an iPhone 8 yes it’s a few years old but it’s spot on. Fast enough, water resistant, plenty of memory and the camera is good enough for anything I’ve needed it for. I don’t change until I think I need to. Usually because apps stop working or start to slow down.

ive had both iPhones and Samsung and prefer the iPhone not a lot in it just mainly for security which is great you don’t need to worry about opening dodgy attachements or clicking dodgy adverts when trying to close them.

The I phone 7 she has at present, latest model at the time, costs me £10.00 per month. £50.00 dipper.
3 Year contract coming to an end, hence my original post !!.
We own the phone at the end.

Got a. iPhone 8. It is superb. Use a Samsung mobile phone for work, detest android, bloody hard work. Thing is though everything else I own, apart from iPad is Samsung, even our fridge! Daughter has an iPhone 11 I honestly can’t see what it does that the 8 doesn’t, I’m sure some could educate me but it just seems a tremendous amount of money for the newer models.

Good point:
Faster chip; bigger screen; facial recognition; better battery; maybe more ram/gb ( one never knows with apple though)

Screens are supposed to be more resilient to breakages, also sporting some sort of self healing tech (not sure about that)

The iPhone 12 'Mini' model is tiny - a full screen iPhone 5 sized device. The Pro camera with Lidar is good according to reviewers - seen no comparisons with Android phones yet but there are some with other Apple models out there and they look pretty good.

The CPU is very powerful in all of these new models, the OLED screen has been a long time coming compared to other brands, even if their refresh rate lags behind the competition and the inclusion of 5G is Apple being late to the party. The exclusion of a charging brick is odd - if you are shipping a lightening to USB-C cable you need a USB-C capable charging brick and I think only the last series (11) of iPhone devices had that, how many iPhone 11 users will immediately go to 12? Still I'm sure Apple will reliuctantly sell you a USB-C capable charging brick for not a lot of wedge :sneaky:

Overall it seems like an industrial design with a lot of tech crammed into a smaller frame...welcome back iPhone 5 - you've been missed.

🙂 sold! I’ll get one in three years when they come down in price. The only thing so they’re so darned big, too big for your pocket. They made do smaller models?

I’d go for the 12 mini. I find the recent releases to be too large. I welcome a return to smaller forms.
Picked mine up on a Black Friday deal shortly after its release for about 40 quid, unlimited everything. Well 100gb internet actually but I’ve never come close to using it. Might be worth seeing what kind of deal you can score

The new ones have 5G.

They have a fancy superfast processor, enhanced night-mode camera and can do some cool LiDar stuff. You don't get a charger or earphones anymore either so it's better for the environment..........
I think I'm righ in syaing it's only the eye watering expensive iPhone 12 pro max that has LIDAR
