Also it's fair to say Google doesn't have the habit of purposely slowing down old models so folks are pushed into buying the newest model.

But as somebody else mentioned it's personal preference.

That article is about third party apps and is from 2019, since then Apple have improved further the OS to notify you in more detail and with more granular controll of what apps have access to etc. The article also calls out Android for being worse.

Apple didn't slow down old phones, the issue was relating to batteries and was badly handled but if the condition of the battery wasn't capable of supporting peak performance they adjusted CPU performance to prevent spontaneous reboots of the phone due to the CPU requiring more power than the battery could sustain.

I'm not sure what you mean by this? I don't see any design consistency across apps? At least not any more than ios. Thats up to the developers and not the company that makes the OS.

Also, like others just disagree about the UI. Samsung, yes there's can be clunky but the pixel is buttery smooth to us, Huawei and oneplus not far behind in my experience.

Sad to say this but I think people who cite "ui" as why apple is better simply haven't used a modern android and are just showing a bias. It has plus points and minus points. Like android. I'd call both ui a score draw (if you're comparing stock)

It's not to me; it's jerky even on flagship Android phones. If you can't see it, then all good. I can though, and it's a shame as I think the Android UI is in fact more user-friendly, especially when it comes to file handling.

I genuinely don't. Which flagship phones are you using? Mine has a 120hz screen so that may explain the smoothness but my Huawei P30 pro was also smooth and I'm certain the stripped down, unskined pixel will be the same. Which phones are Jerky?

I tend to try new Android phones in the shops. I've seen it on the P30 Pro, the Note 10, and the 120Hz OnePlus 7 Pro. With Covid restrictions I've not been out so much and so haven't tried the latest Huawei and OnePlus models, but the Pixel 5 was worse than ever (in my eyes). Given that many apps use the Chrome webview, you're at the mercy of the latest update.

People like different things though and, for some, the speed of the Android scrolling flick (faster than on the iPhone) is preferred. Having tweaked kernel settings on Android, a lot of the jerkiness comes down to the cpu not being ramped up fast enough, in response to a screen touch. And, being too aggressive in lowering the cpu when a touch is released, which is why you tend to see the jerkiness during the friction slowdown of scrolling rather than when you are actively swiping the screen.

Would agree with you on the note 10. I put that down to Samsung clunky skin on top. Very shocked you found that with the P30 pri when I simply didn't at all. Where was it jerky? Screen transitions? Loading software? I'm surprised I never saw it

The loading of apps and all screen transitions were snappy; couldn't have been any better. It is scrolling in the browser where I notice the jerkiness. Ironically (given the notoriously wonky TouchWiz), I have found the Samsung web browser to be smoother than Chrome. It is available to all phones on the Play store.

It's not lost on me how OCD I seem about the scrolling here. I'm not going to pretend that I am more observant than you, or that I have better eyes! It probably says more about me than anything, and I'd still be very happy owning a Pixel 5. :D(y)

Ah, I use chrome on my samsung. Maybe I should switch to their own browser? I know Smausng have improved since the incredibly clunky days of their skin but in the back of my mind I always think other android phones are smoother. They always appear that way to me. That being said now they have finally given a 120Hz display I have no complaints just a slight feeling others are having it better!

Samsung make great displays, and although they do also make them for other companies, you always know you're going to get a top screen on a flagship Samsung phone. No sign of a 120Hz screen on an iPhone this year.

I tend to stick with Chrome for the Google account integration factor.
