New cars, speed limited from 7th July..

All new cars will have a mandatory speed limiter installed.. I can see positives & negatives to this & would have preferred a max speed limiter over one that would prevent a swift & safe overtake

"You can override the system by pressing hard on the accelerator, but the system will reactivate every time the car is started."

So what's the point?

So Basically it makes the car slower to react in emergency situations where you need it but kicks in when it isn't required. Sounds awful

Also what speed will the cars be limited too? 70 is FAR tio quick in a 20 zones and too slow in a motorway. Also also, what If I want to drive to Germany?100KM/H could be dangerously slow on an autobahn

Perhaps it will assist in getting prosecutions? Juries are very keen to give drivers "not guilty". If the barrister can say that the speed limiter has been turned off they may be more likely to get a conviction.

Issue is that the data going between car and speed limit system / zone is not really working consistently at present, I recent drove from UK to Spain and back again and I noticed that you get constant updates on the speed limit in a particular zone across all 3 countries but in all of them very often the car would miss a change of speed limit, not a huge problem at the moment in my car where it just shows on screen that you are exceeding a speed limit but would be a real pain if you had to keep physically overriding

Yeah, cars are terrible for this. They'll misread signs and always get confused at road works

We have two BMW's and they are usually spot on with speed limit recognition... they even count down the yards to a change and also pick up temporary limits in road works.

In Bournemouth they have a electric scooter hire and on the promenade they are or at least were automatically restricted too 3mph.
If they can do that with scooters in Bournemouth it wont be hard to do that with your car.

It would like. You couldn't geofence the whole road network easily. Plus it would be dangerous

I would imagine all cars speed will be governed by satellite information within the next 10 years anyway. Less accidents, less deaths and less pollution. Can only be a good thing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen in Europe but can't see it in US, be like taking their guns off them!

What do you think satnav is? My adaptive speed limiter works primarily in conjunction with the satnav, road sign recognition is only a back up.
To be honest it's another click bait scare story. It will be up to you if you turn it on and of course most won't be adaptive so it will be down to the driver to set the limiting speed.

Sat nav is entirely different to the geo fencing systems they use on scooters I think. Plus that's often wrong, liks around road works or temporary speed restrictions
