New Bank confirms Centre Square Headquarters.

Its the type of jobs required now - fintech.

I love Teesside's Iron and Steel heritage and later Chemical heritage, but the World has moved on and 90% of jobs are service sector and increasingly digital.

Could be start of something. I was surprised the other day to get a job requirement for an ETL specialist in M'bro. Usually it's City/Canary Wharf or Old St.

I got laughed at for doing a Digital based degree at university - this was only a few years ago.... loads of people said "will be happy working at McDonalds?" - how times are changing

When you say you loved Teesside’s Iron and Steel and Chemical heritage are you speaking as an onlooker or as a former worker ?.
There will be few manual workers who toiled in those places who would mourn their demise.
Many will carry respiratory problems for life and up to death as a result of noxious fumes belching from those places.
I am one. and believe me I suffer from breathing problems that could only have been brought on by those places.
And yes I did wear PPE.

Good news for the hospitality industry too. Hopefully more and more digital industry moves in. It all trickles down.

Yes of course, it all helps.

This initial stage is ‘hopeful’ of 120 jobs with just a third of the space being leased.
If the same goes for the remaining two thirds, its potentially 360 jobs, Don’t know if its inclusive of security, cleaning staff and maintenance people.
All want feeding and somewhere to drink.......and park.

Lets be positive, whats the alternative in this day and age?.

Interesting set of people GBB Bank. Specialising in providing property development finance to SME developers in underprovided areas.

I graduated in Computer Science from Teesside Poly in 1980. Still working in the industry (for another 6 months or so).
With just the Mechanics Institute building, the Clarendon Building and the Students Union Building on Southfield Road.
The refectory was upstairs and the food was good wholesome stuff.
King Edward Square was still pretty new.
I was in Halls down by Albert Park.
Happy days (y)
The Lecturers all went in the Southfield .
Empire for me!

ES - I never worked in the Steel industry and understand it was an unhealthy industry and has taken years off some people's lives (including one of my grandfather who died at 53 after working at Cargo Fleet since he was 13). However without the industry half of Teesside would never have existed.
