A NEW test site for people with symptoms of Covid-19 has opened in Middlesbrough.

‘Walk-through' tests are now available in Pallister Park.

The car park next to Pallister Park, off Ormesby Road, has been converted to a test centre and will be open 8am-8pm, seven days a week.

Anyone with one or more of the Covid-19 symptoms should self-isolate until they get a test.

The Covid-19 symptoms are a new continuous cough, high temperature and a loss or change to the senses of taste or smell.

Tests are free and can be booked online or by calling 119.

South Tees Joint Director of Public Health Mark Adams said: "This new site improves access to testing for people across East Middlesbrough.

"People can arrive on foot for their test and with the infection rate as high as it is in Middlesbrough I strongly urge anyone who has symptoms to self-isolate until they can be tested."

Middlesbrough's infection rate stood at 352 per 100,000 of population as of Wednesday.

Those being tested will be required to follow public health measures, including social distancing, not travelling by taxi or public transport, practising good personal hygiene and wearing a face covering throughout, including while travelling to and from the centre.

Anyone attending will be provided with guidance on getting to and from the test site safely, with additional support for vulnerable groups and people with disabilities.

The Pallister Park facility joins long-term sites at Cannon Park and in the Teesside University Printworks car park off Woodlands Road.

Mobile testing units are also in use in Hemlington and on Cargo Fleet Lane.

All sites for people with symptoms of Covid-19 are operated by private companies on behalf of the Department for Health and Social Care.

Just in case anyone doesn’t know, if you live or work in the Stockton on Tees area you can get a free test anytime even if you don’t have symptoms. You can test as frequently as you want, you need to book but it’s pretty much next day if not same day. Open 7 days a week.
