Neil Warnock Post Match Pressy

Well, That was interesting.... watched it twice.... I get he has to stay positive and the next match is the most important ( as they all will be for the next 5) says -

"working really hard" " confidence needs building" "from a fans situation its dire" "wanting to do it that little bit more" "need regroup" "they are working hard" "no time for training only travelling" "cant fault the work ethic" "trying to get the confidence" "cant fault the effort ( x 2 )" "they are working really really hard"

"if I'm honest" x 4.....".no good lying to you".....Has the opposite effect. Instead of effectively conveying a perspective, using that phrase tends to leave the listener with the perception that perhaps the person shouldn’t be taken at their word or that they don’t express their honest opinions in other situations. Basically when people use this it infers what he is talking about (jed Spence for example) is 100% TRUE... it makes you think all the other statements are NOT

He is total opposite than woody who would speak like a fan and say "today was not acceptable", We were poor" He was smiling, calm and handled the press questions in a low key, fluent manner.... I am sure 70% of the interview was bullsite but he knows he cannot change the hand he has been dealt and got to stay positive and not demotivate the shiite he has to work with.

He is attempting to instill a feeling of positivity both to fans and players which is the correct strategy. Privatly he must be seething seeing a performance as poor as that , players not frightened of losing and even worse not having the bottle for a fight. Hard to remember when I felt so low......

Would be interesting to hear his as a pundit talking about THAT performance.....

Agree with everything you’ve said apart from effort
I do think they are giving NW everything (despite what you think you see) but when you’re low in confidence then everything is harder and legs are heavy
It’s psychological

I bet though NW knows he’s short of 2 or 3 leaders in that dressing room and that’s what he’ll be concerned about but he’s been dealt his hand therefore.....it is what it is...

It makes my blood boil when I hear about short on confidence . Jesus the money they’re privileged to get for turning out and giving nothing .
‘normal’ folks would be out on their ears performing in their respective professions like they do . What would really hit their confidence is picking up their mail on a morning with damning bills and threading letters and kind of explaining to kids why they can’t afford to provide . Living like real men and women !

Ooh never saw that rant coming . ( deep breaths )

Confidence is about relativity to the other teams though surely? Doesn’t matter what they earn. You could pay me £5,000 a week but I wouldn’t walk out there feeling confident.

If I may I beg to differ atypical . These guys are professionals who don’t have to feel the tension of the stands presently .
We all have off days but manage to perform . Before I retired if I had a bad day at work there was a good chance someone died - that’s pressure !
To me it’s a soudbite managers use to cradle them . Just my opinion .

In terms of performance I can see no improvement from Woodgate's tenure.

I didn't want him at the club, I don't like the bloke (never met him so just conjectural) I don't think he will save us.

If he does save us you can call me "Colin".

or d*ck ( as in dastardly)

I’m not sure someone coming in for 8 games can make players play better. Unfortunately I think that ship has well and truly sailed off with JW. We just have to hope he can get them fighting for the cause and hope as he says “something drops for us”.

desperate times this is I’m afraid. How we have this very limited squad, unbalanced squad so soon after a PL campaign is utterly baffling. Especially when the balance of the squad was being mentioned while we were still in the PL. Someone at MFC has been absolutely stealing a living!!

I agree with you on that,

Well I was quite happy he came in but after 3 games I'm very disappointed. I know he can't make this "sow's ear" of a squad into a silk purse but his team selections in the last 2 games have been totally baffling. It has all the appearance of pulling names out of a hat.
I know its only 3 games but I can't see what he is trying to do. I only hope that he knows but its not looking good with only 5 games left.

I get that comparatively footballers lead protective lives and they probably will never experience the kind of day to day pressure that us folk have. But that doesn't mean to say that these guys aren't human with mental issues and pressures and its all very well saying "aw bless - they don't know they were born", its a fact that they have to be managed carefully. Overpaid, impervious to criticism of their lifestyle etc etc. It takes a type of management that we as managers in business couldn't handle.

Frustrates the hell out of me seeing that performance yesterday but if you are not good enough you are not good enough. Yes Woodgate was the wrong man and we are paying for it. 8 games was never going to be enough for any manager to turn the general malaise around. I think it is too late and the only way we are going to survive relegation is if Wigan, Barnsley and Luton finish below us and are unable to pick up sufficient points. I can see that happening sadly.

Narrow minded comment, salary doesn’t effect how confident somebody is.

I’m more confident under one manager than I am others. Giving me an extra 100k a year wouldn’t change that

As I posted after the interview a lot of psychology in the interview.

A ship needs turning round its not going to happen instantly. At present NW is finding the right position to turn it to.

Something not talked about much on here is the actual quality of our players and that is maybe what Warnock is getting at when he says he can’t fault the effort. He has shuffled the pack and used a lot of players even in just three games, so he has had a good look.

QPR started yesterday’s match only 6 points ahead of us but man for man looked a league above our players.

For all the comments about Hull they gave us a lesson in tracking back and defending properly, maybe that’s why the ref appeared to be on their side.

Perhaps Warnock with his vast experience at this level has very quickly identified a basic lack of ability in the squad.

As a manager he needs time to work on the squad - if his management is a process. He has had none and isn’t getting any due to the speed matches are coming in these unusual circumstances.

Gibson has acted too late again and this has been compounded by the current fixture timetable.

The squad has been a mess for three seasons, how do you address that in a couple of training sessions?
