Neil Warnock on the Premier League loan market, in-demand target & the lists of available players

The Boro boss still has eyes on a Premier League player but faces plenty of Championship interest

On Friday morning, Neil Warnock received a list of eight Watford players who are available on loan this summer and was asked whether he was interested in bringing any to Middlesbrough.

On this occasion he wasn't, but he expects to receive several similar lists in the coming weeks as top flight clubs look to trim their squads and wage-bills*. [*Could benefit Boro in a buyers market with a large pool of players without a club?].

The Premier League loan market is one Boro are monitoring closely.

Back in April, Warnock revealed that he had eyes on one top flight player and was hoping to bring him to Teesside this summer. Warnock spoke to the player's dad* at the time. [*a young player?]

It's since gone quiet on that front, and while Warnock wouldn't reveal who the player is, he did confirm that he's still available - though said there's going to be quite the scramble for his signature if his parent club does give a loan move the green light.

"Everyone is chasing him in the Championship," said Warnock.

"I don't know if we're anywhere near the top of that pack. There are four or five clubs, or so his agent tells me, so I'm not optimistic really.

"But there will be the odd loan deal when the squads come out."

That prompted Warnock to discuss the list he'd received from the Hornets.

"I got a list from Watford today with seven or eight players on there," he said.

"There were some shocks* really. [*Possibly established players? Could be tempting but wages would be a hurdle?]

"They want the wages off now don't they, so someone will crop up.

"Agents work for the clubs and they've been asked to help get players out on loan to get wages down when they're signing players. So six or seven were given to me by one agent today. Am I interested in any, unfortunately I'm not on this occasion but it just shows what's happening around the country." [Could be a scramble as deadline approaches?].

As well as potentially bringing in one or two loanees, Warnock will sanction several exits for loan players, [Who?] but only when he knows the make-up of his squad for the coming season.

He has already confirmed that he won't be letting Hayden Coulson leave until he manages to bring in a left-sided defender, while a number of clubs have already enquired about Isaiah Jones*. [*Lets hope we keep him].

Warnock has a decision to make on Nathan Wood and whether another loan is the best port of call for the gifted teenage defender, who impressed at Crewe in the second half of last season. A string of other youngsters who are in between the Under-23 and first team* set-up will also be in-demand by clubs in League One and Two. [* Josh? Hackney? Malley? Robinson? Green? Folarin? Sivi? Cavanagh? Walker?]

I always thought that the transfer “list” was something invented by Championship Manager.

Watford have a pretty big squad though, don’t they? And if they want to improve and stick to 25 for the PL they will need to shift some. I always liked Will Hughes. Not saying he’s available or anything, just that I think he’s a good player.

Hartlepool mail mentioned young player could be Liam Delap
The Hpool Mail is quite dependable as well much like the Northern Echo and very much unlike the north of England ( feature ) advert rag that is the Gazette

Old news - but is it?
"Everyone is chasing him in the Championship," said Warnock.
Is this the lad hes on about?
