Neil Critchley

That must be a rarity in the modern game.

Leaving a fairly prominent managerial position by choice to become somebody's assistant is strange.

I know the money will be much better, but still.

surprised about that think I would prefer to be my own manager at Blackpool than an assistant at Villa, but guess he would of got a nice bump in the wages (edit great minds and all that TeaCider)

He didn’t really have a playing career so won’t be a multi millionaire like many of his peers. Likely he can’t turn it down as it will be enough to secure his families future.

I get that, but if he had another season at Blackpool and did well to decent you would fancy he would be offered a better gig. I’m sure it’s not his management career over but he’s a promising manager and one where I feel a top end championship club or lower Prem club we’re gonna come calling soon. An assistant managers gig just isn’t the same, I get his reasons of course but from the outside looking in seems a shame.

Cut his teeth with the Liverpool ressies didn't he, has coaching badges to level very few, if any, other people can match in the game I think and he'll obviously know Gerard.

I think it's a very shrewd move by Gerard.

No one’s doubting it’s a good move from Villa and Gerrard, it clearly is he’s a highly rated coach. FairPlay to Villa for enticing him. I just think from Critchley’s part, if he wants to be a top, top manager I think it’s a poor career move. Yes he will be on more money but I’m sure he would of got a bigger job than Blackpool soon.
