National Hill Climb Championships

A lot less drillium on display than I expected and people with lights on their bikes, do they not realise they are carrying excess weight?

I used to love going to the local championships in Kildale. There was always a bit of a burn-up afterwards with all the local Teesside clubs represented. I've no idea if it's still held with the demise of so many clubs. After a very quick scan of the results I noticed only one Cleveland Wheeler representative, and no other Teesside club.

You gotta have lights on, it’s da rules. Prob something to do with insurance. We have to have them when we do TT’s so imagine this is similar.

I used to regularly do our clubs annual hill climb, and it's horrible ! The only saving grace is it's short, and so you dont suffer for too long.
I loved the Freewheeling contest - no pedalling at all. Your crank was strapped so that you couldn't pedal and you set off from the top of a hill. The one who freewheeled the furthest won. The distance between the riders was always surprising.

Think they may have stopped that due to the safety implications of a strapped crank, and the lack of traffic free roads probably ?

I've no idea. I would have hoped it's still possible to find some really quiet back road in the UK? The speeds are very low and it was far safer, even then, than any ordinary time-trial. Ours was held at Ingleby Greenhow.
