Nathan Wood

Hopefully he can step up for Boro, seems to have a long way to go though judging by previous starts.
His time must be soon otherwise time will pass him by.....

He's still young and learning. Yet I'm not sure he's quite living up to his early career hype (I know he's still only 20).

He didn't make much impression out on loan. That was commented on by Wilder when asked about him. I'm not sure he's had a kick since coming back?

Then again it's hardly surprising with our 3 CBs and Bamba ahead of him. I'd say he's probably ahead of Hall... Then again so am I😂

He's got plenty of very good CBs to learn off. You'd think Sol could teach him a thing or two. Although I expect another loan next season.

Supposedly has a bit of an attitude, hence why it didnt work out at Hibs. Understandable though, these young kids get smoke blew up them from a very young age and having Rockcliffe as your office must be a dream come true to then go to Scotland it would be a bit of a culture shock. I suppose these loans to lower leagues and Scotland etc are what split the men from the boys in terms of 'making it'. Newsflash for me today was finding out his Dad is Dean Gordon!

still just a kid. He's 19, and there are very, very few 19 year old CBs playing in the top 2 leagues. It's a position that needs good decision making, which comes from experience and good strength, which doesn't really build until about 23 (see Dael Fry).

If he can knuckle down, then he can have a great future. Really needs a good loan, and better advice than he had last time. Needs to be playing week in week out.

I will be fair and look at the other side there are 2 19 year old CBs who have a fair few championship appearances, Levi Colwill (Huddersfield) has started 22 games, and is one of their best players. Ronnie Edwards (Peterborough) has 24 starts but not quite in the same ball park.

This is what Woods should be striving for being good enough to play 20 games at champ level at 19. There is only Callum Doyle at Sunderland in League One under 20 and playing regularly at CB.

So, it's possible to play at that age, but fairly rare, and some players mature at different rates. But big year coming up for him.

Hope he does well but interesting that I've seen people suggesting we may be in for Levi Colwill next year. Colwill is a year younger than Wood and played in the U21s for England rather than U20s so he's a year ahead of Wood in development. He's also now had almost a full season on loan at Huddersfield where he has been an ever-present when available. Realistically, it's hard to see Wood getting into our team in the next couple of years barring a freak run of injuries.

Guess a lot depends on how would performs next year, I'd expect him to be loaned out either a low championship side or a good league one side. We play with 3 CBs so there is always opportunity for him.

I think the only way we will get Colwill is if we go up and Huddersfield don't, you would think he'll be in the 10m+ bracket already.

Another 3 years and who knows Colwill.....Fry.....Wood as our CBs?

Wilder kept Coburn and made a point of emphasising loans away are not always the answer.
I think Wood can be the best CB we have produced since Pallister.
How about Gibson, Fry and Wood as three CB's inside a couple of seasons.

Colwill is a left sided centre back, which is something we’re lacking. Wood plays right side, so I wouldn’t see them as direct rivals if we did sign Colwill. I can’t see it happening though unless we’re either promoted or flush with cash from a few big sales.
