Name a place you have visited that never lived up to the hype.

Carcassonne - oh it's impressive, but the tackiness of the shops inside absolutely ruins it (this is a "disappointed by" thread, rather than "it's a dump" thread I believe ?)
Carcassonne best seen in the evening when all the coachloads of tourists have buggered off.

Absolutely love NYC - would move there in a heartbeat. Also a big fan of Marseille, I don't mind "edgy" and the port is absolutely stunning.

Another shout for Sharm here, although it was almost certainly my own fault. We stayed on the very edge of the "resort" - about one hour's drive from the actual town. As a result there was literally nothing there. All inclusive but I've never been so bored in my life. I've never booked another "beach" holiday since. Did plan to walk off into the desert one day but was thankfully persuaded otherwise by the hotel staff :)

I love Paris but wasn't impressed with Bordeaux, beautiful city but the people were far more Parisian than any Parisians I've ever met. Massive chip. Very good wine though.

Pamukkale. Was obviously amazing in the past. Now just ruined by mass tourism. Ironically, I shot one of the most beautiful sequences I've ever filmed there ... a real case of the camera lying through its teeth.

The Riverside....🙃
Nooooo….Ayresome park : 119 years and one trophy Ffs!
Major let down. Other than seeing two great play off games; 1st at home to Bradford winning 2-0 with Gary Hamilton screamer…and a Chelsea home win taking it too s. Bridge to hang on for promotion!

Riverside; 10 years in and bang, calling cup!

venice. altho to be fair, I was far more interested in the contents of my girlfriends knickers at the time. I'm a terrible person.

Capri. Found Amalfi coast to be much more charming and beautiful, and reasonably priced. Capri seemed overcrowded even during covid, with obnoxious tourists.

Still the pyramids. Think the TV 'wonder' sat in the middle of a crumbling city and a KFC near by 😂.

Oh and rubbish flying around your head and people hassling you for camel rides and trying to sell you sh*t pottery.

I guess it would be amazing if you could take a 30-60min drive into the desert to see them. Oh well.

I cant believe London, New York or Las Vegas make it on to this list, probably my 3 favourite cities in that order.

For me it's the Pyramids. You imagine trecking through the desert to find three solitary pyramids standing majestically above the Sahara. What you actually get is the Egyptian equivalent of the M1 steaming past full of burger kings and KFC's, whilst Arabs try and sell you tacky souvenirs to remind you of the experience.

One you get inside you see that tourists have decided that the only thing missing from this wonder of architecture that's stood for thousands of years, is to let you know that "Deano was ere 1986"
I agree with London and New York, they have enough landmarks to have a label of character and I always enjoy them for what they are but vegas
Jeez….anyone who tells me that they like that place, I always think they must be a little bit shallow because it has no soul….

Brighton - tacky and dirty.
Canberra - an 8 hour round trip from Sydney to see some modern Government Buildings.
Tunbridge Wells - The Pantiles are not worth the drive.

Brussels was nice for a weekend but the greatness of the beer was matched by the sh1teness of the food, unless you want fries 3 times a day.
Why anybody would drive 8 hours inland to go to Canberra. 😂 Especially when a few hours up and down the coast from Sydney you have beautiful bays and towns.

Tunbridge Wells has never been a destination place. It just harbours angry Bumpton- Trumptons and posh Karens who write constantly to the Daily Telegraph and Times.

Old Wembley. Maybe biased by the disappointments we had there but it wasn't a good experience at all. Never been to the new one.

Niagara Falls - not the actual falls but the tacky, horrible town next to it. Appartently even worse on the US side of the river.

Central London Hotels. Unless you pay a fortune they are terrible.
