When my son got in to football probably 9 or 10 I would tape MITD, video days mind & after school & tea we'd watch the whole programmeLuckily they have been pretty rubbish since the day he was born, ironically I blame myself I insisted on listening to boro/man u game on the way home from the hospital and they beat us 2-0, I think he decided then at 12 hours old the boro weren't going to be for him
I felt about guilty about forcing Boro on him, as I did my daughter & noticed he would be a tad excited after a certain team scored a goal, so I basically said after one of the MOTD shows we'd been watching, listen son you don't have to have your heart broken like your dad has for the past 40 odd years if you like someone else that's OK with me though I gave him a list of teams he could follow
He said, I like Arsenal dad, OK son, so each Christmas, birthday, he'd want something Arsenal, which he got but something bigger of the Boro, like Boro Wall to wall curtain, pillow case & light shading
Eventually after a year or so he phoned me at work, he'd been to the Riverside with school & said, hi dad Boro are my team now not Arsenal, gerrriiiin there, I didn't force him he choose the Boro
He's had his heart broken like his dad, grandad, uncle & sister & now they've got him for life x
