My top 20 biggest English clubs

Bit random but I'm sitting bored at work and decided to come up with a list of the top 20 biggest clubs in England.

I've based it on trophies, attendances, seasons in top flight and global fanbase.

What do you think?

I've placed Boro 22nd so we just miss out.

  • Fourth Division/League Two

They have won the FA Cup a few times and the league once. Granted, we are talking ancient history .....

Sheff Utd have won the old First Division, and won the FA Cup 4 times.

They're also very likely to finish higher than our highest ever finish in the Premier League this season.

Bolton, although I don't think there's much between us in terms of size.

Reason being they have won the FA Cup 4 times, and have also had 12 more seasons in the top flight.

Doing it on ancient history, Preston, Huddersfield, Burnley, Portsmouth, Ipswich could all be in there.

Personally, I’d have us above Sunderland, Sheff Utd & Wed, Blackburn and Derby.

They're not as big as they like to think they are, but they've had 86 seasons in the top flight, won the old First Division 6 times and the FA Cup twice.

Doing it on ancient history, Preston, Huddersfield, Burnley, Portsmouth, Ipswich could all be in there.

Personally, I’d have us above Sunderland, Sheff Utd & Wed, Blackburn and Derby.

Again, all of those clubs have had more seasons in the top fight than we have, and have won more trophies.

I have some serious issues with that list.

They've only had 26 seasons in the top flight.

All of the clubs in my list have had nearly 60 or more seasons in the top flight.

I think seasons spent in the top flight is a barometer of what makes a club 'big', but obviously there are other things to conisder.

For me personally The Boro will always be the biggest club in the world

They've only got the same amont of trophies as the Boro.

Surely a big club is one that wins consistently over decades. The likes of Sunderland, Preston, Blackpool, Portsmouth and the like were all successful almost 100 years ago.

Realistically, it could be argued that only Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and more recently Chelsea and Manchester City are genuinely big.

Have you seen some of the Var decisions for Liverpool’s this season.
Var is only as good as the refs interpreting it.
