Muzzy Carayol on playing for Aitor Karanka

“at the time I was his best player” - better than Adomah, Tomlin, Butterfield, Leadbitter, Chalobah, Omeruo, Ayala, Friend & Whitehead?

Yeah, I'm sure that Karanka randomly decided to treat his 'best player' badly for absolutely no reason. Carayol won't have done a thing.
Someone being paid a large amount of money to play football and refusing to play. Also looking back and saying he was better than all of his teammates.

Thought he was useful when I saw him play. It’s obvious from that clip that he is bitter about his time here. Seems fond of himself though, has he done much since being here- genuine question not a dig.

He was a canny player, looked like he needed to up his game a bit. He got naughty stepped then came back and did his cruciate. Half a season here and there.. left Forest when Karanka arrived and played abroad for a few years.

He sounds like his attitude was spot on! I guess there’s 2 sides to every story.

I remember seeing him playing for Bristol Rovers and he had a great game and scored a long range goal (in the cup I think) and thinking he looked a good player so was pleased when we signed him. Thought he did pretty well for us until his injury. He has never really stuck around at a club very long, with us and Torquay seeing most appearances by him at just over 50, so I guess I refer to my first sentence.

Really poor from MC imho. Is this the head coach that did not want Downing, Forshaw, Rhodes either, but Adomah ran over to hug? For the record they were white bar Albert btw , just in case anyone did not realise

I'm really struggling to understand what you are getting at here coluka.

Yes let’s make this about race eh?? Because it couldn’t be a clash of personalities, and by the way I’m not saying either was right I wasn’t there.
Or the fact that he didn’t fancy him as a player

It was about "certain players thinking they were better than they were" - the fact that the guy is looking back around the time he was refusing to play and saying he was the best player at the club says it all for me.

Karanka came from Real Madrid, underdog to José Mourinho and wanted to set and maintain a standard first job as a rookie manager and didn't want to let anything slip, lots of pressure.

He kicked out Craig Hignett after the Blackburn game..

"I only had one fallout with Aitor but with him there's no coming back from it. If you fall out with him, that's it. It can never be repaired.

"He was difficult to work with at times. The way he works is very intense. He's a perfectionist. Sometimes that can be a good thing, but on the other hand, I think there is a time and a place to enjoy what you're doing."

I thought Carayol was an awful player. Headless chicken with no football brain. Seems Aitor thought so to

Tbf I'd definitely rate Carayol higher than Butterfield, Chalobah and Whitehead. Don't think including those 3 makes much of a point.

Didn’t mind Whitehead, not the best footballer in the world but felt he always did his best and was committed to the cause. Was clearly important behind the scenes aswell. Butterfield was utter garbage
