Has Carrick been asked about Muniz recently? Obviously we have the 5 loan situation and I could sort of understand Muniz being the one to miss out when Ramsey and Archer came in. My expectation was that Mowatt would gradually get more game time as he (and Barlaser) rotated with Howson & Hackney.
As it stands neither Mowatt or Barlaser are getting any minutes, with McGree moving into central midfield to replace Hackney against Burnley. Unless Carrick really doesn't trust Barlaser yet, I can't see any reason why Mowatt is on the bench. If we need a goal in a big game, I would have thought that the extra striker option would be beneficial.
We would still have 4 options for CM in the match day squad (Howson, Hackney, Barlaser and McGree) Actually 5 if you count Crooks.
A bench of McNair, Bola/Dijksteel, Barlaser, Crooks, Forss and Muniz just feels more powerful.
I'm assuming Muniz is fit, so perhaps contractual? If it is a money thing, I wonder as the Premier League cash comes in to view, that Muniz starts to become available again?
