Multiple deaths in Channel dinghy accident

Language please yet to see a tv interview where they have spoken English. I am not against genuine imagination but they are not coming for language they are coming for a better life which I don’t blame them for

“Today, people who want to seek asylum in England have no other means than to cross the Channel. This is because there is no legal way for immigrants to go to Great Britain and because you can work without identity papers in England and that creates a demand,” Darmanin told BFM TV.

He added that France accepted 150,000 asylum applications a year, compared with 30,000 in the UK.

France’s European affairs minister, Clément Beaune, also hit back at the UK, accusing it of having “an economic model of, sometimes, quasi-modern slavery” that he said encouraged desperate people to attempt perilous Channel crossings.

“We’re asking the British to change their [legal] framework,” Beaune told France Inter. He said exploitation of illegal workers was “more prevalent in the UK because there are fewer checks” and the UK needed “more humane” labour market regulation to discourage migrants.

I think when I mentioned this at the time someone on here tried to suggest I was coming from an anti immigrant angle!🤔

I've seen plenty on TV who speak English. One of the women who died last week was coming to live with her fiancé. One of them had worked with British Forces.

I think again you are falling for the Tory narrative like many in England have already done. I don't blame you though, it's all over the media.

If the consensus on this thread extrapolated across the country then we are being grossly misrepresented by our government.

What’s on the media sorry if my opinion differs from yours. I believe they come to the uk for a better a life as on a hole you will be accepted if you work and play your part in society

Of course we can have differing opinions. That's fine. No need to apologise.

The recent evidence from those who recently died was that some had links to the UK. They weren't just coming because they heard the UK was better than France for example. That's based on evidence, not opinion.

What's in the media you ask? Well many stories from right wing media about how migrants have no links to the UK and are just coming because the UK is great. Again, the evidence doesn't bear that one out either because we have tiny fraction of migrants crossing the channel compared to how many claim in other countries.

Don't get opinions confused with evidence.

Yet they can find millions for track and trace apps.
The government can yes, the local councils who I would imagine owned these buildings wouldnt have that sort of funding. Even if they did throwing money at a building that is practically falling apart wouldnt be the best use of public money.

High rise living has shown to come with so many issues, councils are rightly moving away from this

TBH it isn't anything to do with high rise living and everything to do with the money spent on the upkeep of the building, its services and the amount of amenities close by.

If this tower was in the middle of a sinkhole estate on the outskirts of a northern town it would've been dropped a long time ago, as it is in central London a 3 bed flat will cost £1.75m (and still require renovation).
