Mulholland Drive

Been ill for the last two days with a covid like, but so far not covid, bug and been stuck in bed feeling sorry for myself and watching a bit footy. Sorry to the Friday night regulars for not getting a thread up, but thankfully I'd seen one had been started so glad you didn't miss out.

Anyhow I digress. To fill in some time I also watched Mulholland Drive for the first time, and found it to be totally engaging and despite being a relatively long film the time flew.

I wouldn't say I'm a David Lynch fan specifically as only really seen Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart and Twin Peaks previously.

I was expecting it to be surreal, a bit of a mind twister and probably unfathomable in parts.

Did anyone get any sort of idea as to what it was about? Great film, no doubt but still as clueless as before I'd even watched it.

I'm guessing it's something to with the main part of the film actually being a Bobby Ewing style dream sequence with the latter part being the harsh reality. I wouldn't even bet 50p on it though. Great film, twisted as he'll. Typical Lynch really then.

It's a great film no doubt. One those you can put on and be taken away into another place and time. Love films like that. Very engrossing.

I watched it a couple of months ago. Didn't have any preconceptions going into it, other than it was a highly rated Lynch film.

On the surface it is a dream sequenced whodunnit (or what was done and why) but being Lynch, it goes much deeper. There are many Youtube videos that provide very good explanations of the whole thing. Plot, characters, reality, dream, objects and their meanings. I would watch the film again and then maybe watch a couple of the Youtube explainers. It really all does make sense.

If you want full on weird Lynch you need to watch Inland Empire. Probably take some drugs first. Maybe it will make more sense then :)

Thanks for the recommendation - you're right though, if imagine that things would make more sense with some alteration to your sobriety first!

I watched it decades ago and thought, utter dross but love wild at heart and twin peaks. What I love is about the human race is, we are all so different :)

I had a fling with a lesbian many years ago who wanted to dabble with a man out of curiosity. Anyway, this was her favourite film but still I’ve never seen it yet. I might watch it tonight after the football.

I fast forwarded the opening of the film not realising it was a major part of it until afterward so was even more confusing for me 😁🥲

Watched it years ago in the mess deck and struggled to follow it with all the usual crap that goes on with ***ed up idiots at sea…

seen it in a few times and always talked my self out of watching it…

but watched that series with Peter capaldi a few weeks ago and thought it was great… The devils hour…

I imagine it’s as surreal as that was 🤷🏼‍♂️
