Unfortunately the Tories have form in terms of closing ranks and trying to manage the fallout from this sort of thing.I'm criticising the machinery of political parties. All of them. If this was your wife or daughter you wouldn't stand by while they went through what is effectively a grievance process. You'd encourage them to report it to the police and let the law take the complaint through due process. I'm saying in two recent cases the Conservative Party has sat on serious allegations when their duty of care to the individual should have prompted an immediate referral to the police.
And as for Coopers point that this should not be used politically, I don’t accept for a moment that the Tories wouldn’t try to use this politically, so why shouldn’t any other party?
Politics is a very public blame game, if it’s a Tory criminal disgrace then I think It needs to be said even if you don’t like the bad publicity.
