Mowbray - You're a WEASEL

I don't think it's a matter of being a 'die hard loyalist', it's about having a little perspective. Good people make errors of judgement and get things wrong. It happens all the time. They don't suddenly become weasels or scumbags, or whatever.
Those words are certainly not appropriate to describe Mowbray, and as Rob said, should make most of us feel uncomfortable. However, being a Boro legend doesn't make him immune from criticism and doesn't mean that he is never wrong.

Part of me thinks this thread is trying to deflect away from a **** poor performance from the lads on Sunday. Apart from the first 10 minutes of the second half where they looked like they'd had a bollocking from Warnock at half time it was dreadful to watch.
Nah, most of us agree that we were sh!te.

I have a slight suspicion that a lot of the scorn on here is driven by

we were crap ( again ) not withstanding the injury .

everybody is fed up with lockdown

the Young lad Was hurt badly and we care

Mogga messed up his response . But he’s only human and we all make mistakes .

Come on we are no worse off league wise . Blimey everyone mellow please

Mogga let himself down.

He has a few die hard loyalists on here and I respect that but a lot of us will never again look upon him as the hero we did in our younger days.

He was a centre half and he’s getting on a bit now, that’s the only excuse I can offer for him I’m afraid.
Nonsense. People are trying to find criticism where there is none to be had. He manages Blackburn Rovers not Middlesbrough. He hasn't criticised the club, he's defended his own player and quite correctly. Does anyone truly believe Branthwaite meant to boot Fry in the face? Of course he didn't. Mowbray is a straight talker and he's called it as he's seen it. I'm yet to be shown a scrap of evidence that demonstrates this nonsense response.

Notwithstanding, do we disregard all the service he's given the club? Leading the club out of '86 on the pitch, rescuing the club from financial trouble off the pitch. Following the club as a supporter in his own time and in the media. The chip on some fans shoulders is appalling.

I'm sure Warnock was genuinely annoyed by the incident but he does have previous for verbally bashing officials after a defeat.

Its the classic deflection tactic that the majority of managers use, and fans fall for it.

I respect your defence of him but why would I have a chip on my shoulder about Mowbray?

I’m just a Boro fan of over 50 years, I’ve never met him, he is just an ex player and manager of the team I support. I think he did a great job as a player and a decent one as manager considering the limited resources he had at the time.

No chip I’m afraid, just disappointment at his reaction to a serious incident and I do have every right to have that opinion that by the way.

Fry could easily have lost an eye yesterday, it’s probably good luck that he didn’t, and without sawing sawdust I’m surprised at those on here who think it’s no big deal.

Nobody believes he meant to boot Fry in the face but it was still reckless play, and if Mowbray is a straight talker then he should have acknowledged this in his interview. Say it as it is. You can still defend your player whilst giving an honest opinion on what you saw.

No problem with that, by and large, i just have no idea what your problem is with how he's reacted. I'm baffled.

It was Mowbray the man and leader that got him his affection, much more than his playing ability.
Similarly he acted with dignity throughout his ultimately disappointing time as manager.

Mowbray's captaincy from 86 will rightly never be forgotten, but sadly nor will his comments over the last 24 hours for a lot of people.
He handled it badly and compounded it after having time to reflect.

Souness will always be a legend to me, but it appears many others did not forgive him for the way he went to Liverpool. I just didn't see the problem at all, given the Club's complete lack of ambition at the time.
Merson is still a legend to some, but I can't abide him for the lies he told on leaving the club.
I guess we all have different heroes and reasons why.
Indeedido, I can go along with all that & agree wholeheartedly about Merson, though that's different, he told lies, tried to drag down the club to make him the innocent part in the transfer, he's the only one I'll not have any respect for, because of his lied

Weasel & other names, were the reason of my post, as HolgateCorner & yourself have since posted, you can have a debate, while putting your thoughts across the right way

Thanks E74, us more senior members of the forum have to try to maintain some decency in the debate!

My problem is that I think some incidents/accidents transcend the sport, the game and the match. This was such an occurrence. Fry nearly lost an eye from a clear red card kick in the face.

Mowbray could still have defended his player by just saying it was not intentional and he will learn from it. He could also have wished Fry a speedy recovery.

That’s all I wanted, nothing dramatic, just some acknowledgement of an unacceptable incident involving one of his players.

There is still room for decency in this world, I was hoping for some decency from the 57 year old very experienced Mowbray. I’m sure the regular Blackburn supporter would have forgiven him a bit of decency in this case.

Cheers HolgateCorner, I'm only saying it as I see it
I wasn't calling anyone I just dont see the need for some of the comments

The poster singled me out, even though others had said something similar to me, because we had a disagreement over Brexit & he carried it over

You always come across as an excellent & fair minded poster, as do the vast majority on here

I agree, most of the posters on here are first class and a credit to the Boro fan base.

This forum has kept me going during the lockdown, I don’t know a single person in real life (or not that I know of) but every day you can escape with a bit of chat about this and that and the vast majority of it is good harmless banter and debate 👍

been going to Boro matches ( or at least watching on TV/Computer) for 54 years and that challenge or lunge at the ball was one of the worst I have seen ( even Mick Kennedy wouldnt have done that) . Looking at Daels pictures after stitches in the eye socket, under the eye and brow look like he was a very lucky man. How on earth it wasnt seen by the ref/lino is way beyond me. Mogga has downplayed it , one clip says he said "the boy is a beanpole, skinny and not strong... a strong wind would knock him down" Poor response. trying to add justification that the boys size , weakness means he couldnt lunge or cause damage..... Lost a bit of respect, hard to hear Mogga talking like this

For Mogga not even to inquire as to the state of the lad's health or wish him a speedy recovery just does not sit right with me at all.
How do you know he didn't. Just because he didn't do it in a one minute interview taking questions from a reporter. I don't know whether he did or didn't.
Too much guess work on this thread.

He probably has acknowledged it happened. Why does he have to do that publicly? I'm pretty sure it will have been discussed when the Blackburn players and staff watch the game back from Sunday. Yes the lad is young, yes it was a penalty and a red card, you'd hope the lad learns from it because 9.99 times out of ten it's a sending off offence and penalty.

How do we know if Branthwaite and Fry haven't been in touch and discussed the incident? Just because it isn't public knowledge doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Sensible post Randy.👍
